I've been getting into Rouge-like games for the past couple of months. I love the randomized elements, character customization, detail, and the fact that your save file gets deleted when you die. Hell yes.

I've been playing a lot of ADOM (Ancient Domains of Mystery). There are a good number of races and classes to mess around with and all of them are pretty different and interesting (the Mindcrafter and Necromancer are great fun). Plus, the level of intracacy in the combat and exploration is astounding. It's got a quite a learning curve as a result, but it's definitely gripping...and hard as hell.

Alphaman is also cool, but much more shallow. The post-apocalype setting is nice though. Mission Mainframe is another one that I'm really digging. It's secret agent themed and has a very interesting approach to dungeon layout and combat. It's probably the Rouge-like that's the farthest from the original Rogue game.

Anyone else into these games? Have any favorites?

Completely different platform, but Izuna's interesting looking to me. Otherwise I really can't contribute much to this topic. :P

Yeah, my roommate bought Izuna and I've been doing some reading about it. I like the fact that it's apparently hard as hell and they permanently delete your equipment every time you die. But the game play looks pretty boring and overly simple. Gamespot described the difficulty as "barbaric" which sounds pretty badass to me. I'll give it a whirl one of these days.
