Trying to find an Snes Shoot em Up

The gameplay was a combination of contra-like sidescrolling stages with gradius like side-scrolling plane missions in between them. there are many different weapon power ups and the plane and people missions shared them. The game was for Super Nintendo and I think it was set in the future. Can anyone identify this game? if it describes multiple games, can you suggest it also? Thanks.
