Concrete donkey.  Also, test post - the boards seem to be having issues with the e-mail system.

If concrete donkey though, for some reason I pegged him as British. I guess I wasn't /too/ far off.

You were pretty far off, I mean Australia and the UK are thousands of miles apart.

I had the same issue a few weeks back firing off a PM. Wound up sending the same/similar a million times when I thought it wasn't going through at all. :P

Internet quibbles and technical difficulties aside, back to Suikoden?

I'm in the minority too regarding this series.  I do think Suikoden is a fine series whose passionate fanbase speaks for itself.  However, I couldn't really get into that series.  The series certainly has that intangible mojo that speaks volumes to all you Suiko-fans, but that mojo didn't quite speak to me.  That's the only way I can explain why I'm not really into it.

The one thing I really like is that the Suikoden games portray war on a more realistic scale than other RPGs.  Threat against the world from the "evil empire" and the evil head honcho at the helm?  Form a big ass army.  Certainly a more sensible move than facing an empire with just 4-6 other kids.

There's no accounting for taste and you all know that mine can be pretty weird sometimes.

Based on his name being a fairly immature reference to Worms and his applauding of the first person aspect of Suiko4, I think we can be pretty sure that someone turned upside down a PC gaming form, shook it, and this little guy accidently fell out and into this one.

Go back to your home donkey boy!

America sucks. Australia Sucks. Mets suck. Yankees suck. Krypton sucks.

Anyhow. Suikode IV is basically the giant series catastrophe. I think it may have started when some genius writer dreamed up the name "Lazlo" for its hero. I'm fairly sure Lazlo's one of those names that just ends worlds when applies to anyone of importance.  From there, it was one long downward spiral. I really wanted the game to be good, despite technical issues, but it never, ever picked up.

V on the other hand? Golden. My ranking pretty much goes II, V, I, III, and IV now. Having not played Suiko Tactics, I can't really comment. I /want/ to play it, but I haven't had the time.

Suikoden IV's hero was named Lazlo AFTER the game was released.

That doesn't excuse the name.

I just hope that Suikoden VI picks up after where Suikoden III left off.

I'll agree to that; Suikoden seems to be the most realistic with regards to war and politics, and doesn't get highly into all manner of meta-physical insanity, thus pitting you against either God, Satan, or some other celestial or otherwise divine entity.

Personally, I like how Suikoden is so ~~~MULTI-CULTURAL~~~

Dade wins. Well maybe, I need to beat V first.

II, V, I, III, IV is my preferences. I was one of the suckers who initially decline getting Suikoden I due to that cover and got II purely out of impulse and it remained special. V does have some evil technical problems, but I greatly enjoyed and it really made an impact on me in some places. My friends who played III (some being their only Suikoden game), I felt disapointed. The pacing bugged me while ambitious, felt the introduction was longer then the main meat of the game which I didn't find to be that great. IV... well others already explained, but not a bad game at all.

I rented Suikoden 1 mostly because I saw that it won UGP's RPG of the year in 1996, and became intrigued.
