Extracting Data from a PS2 Disc...

I've been thinking, even more than usually lately: isn't there a way to extract images, music, sound, and videos directly from the PS2 game disc itself? If so, now? I mean, isn't there computer software out there for something like this? I hear people "rip" the music directly from game discs, sometimes...
