Virtual machines are old tech, really.  I'm running Win2K atop a Redhat install as we speak.

Dude.. I was running VirtualPC with Win98 to play Fallout 2 on Jaguar.  The only difference is that this would be built-in.

Apple is making a nice smart decision here. They're easily going to have a 10% market share by end of 2008, methinks.

Virtual machines are out....running shit natively? In. Sure it's for intel-based only, but since my MacMini doesnt really serve my needs as much anymore....that new iMac is lookin pretty slick. Or maybe I'll wait for a G5-esque tower.

heh, this is funny because a few of my friends who know i like macs, emailed this to me through the course of the week.  they were so quick to hate on macs before, but now they're like.. "hmm.. they have some nice audio and visual editing software... maybe ill buy one now".

Or what we usually call it in the biz, "dual booting."  :P

A VM's usefulness is that you can run it at the same time as the host system, with the ability to transfer files and clipboard data between the two.  Apparently not so with Apple's setup.  The only thing that impresses me is they must've found a way to keep Windows setup from clobbering the boot record.

If only they'd make a portable GUI toolkit.  I can run most Gnome and KDE applications on every major operating system, and there's no major technical barrier to M$ and Apple giving me the same courtesy.
