Thanks for sticking up for me, D.  Thanks for being Goosey, Starry.
 :D

I [re]watched Gran Torino.  The movie is riddled with some pretty horrible acting.... and quite a lot of racial stuff (nothing too, too bad).  BUT, the greater message and story really shine.  It's a simple and done-before plot, but still strong and largely entertaining and heart-felt.  Clint Eastwood... I love you.

EDIT:  Watched American Pie 4;  A.K.A. American Reunion.  Jim and Finch haven't aged a day, but it was great that really the entire cast got back for this (thanks to $$$$ probably).  Really great flick, filled with its penis/titty/sex antics, some shocking stuff, and some of Stiffler being a dick.

Quote
I'm sad Kev and Viki didn't get back together; mostly because they painted Kev's marriage as... not exactly being the best.  Rather him and her than Oz and the Giant Forehead whatever Meena Suvari's character's name is.  Anyways, best part was seeing how happy Stiffler was to meet Finch's mom, and my god, for an older woman she was a BOMBSHELL.  But revenge was sweet.

Don't think this really deserves it's own thread.

http://trekmovie.com/2012/04/30/major-star-trek-sequel-spoilers-confirmed/

Star Trek sequel spoilers.

Code:
Kind of funny how transparent they're being about taking the most popular aspects of Star Trek to ensure baseline profit. Klingons! Khan! This is what I hate about reboots- retreading old ground instead of using the fresh page to do something new.

Oh well, it could still be good.

Saw The Avengers last night. I more or less had no interest in seeing it, just wanted something to do... and I ended up fucking loving it. It doesn't take itself too seriously (one of the reasons I'm not a megafan of the new Batsy movies) and all the characters gelled together pretty damn well. It had some of the best humor I've ever seen in a comic book movie, and that really made the movie. Awesome one liners and even some great gags. The guy that plays the Hulk was especially great.

I really can't believe how much I liked this movie. Even though I'm a pretty big nerd, I was pretty skeptical.

If you go there are 2 segments after the credits. One teaser and at the very very end there's something else that's hilarious.

Also, the dude that plays loki reminds me of the guy from my life with the thrill kill kult or someone from ministry back in the day.

The Avengers was fucking AWESOME. I don't want to say anything because it might lessen the impact of some scenes for anyone who will see it, but there were so many times in the theater with thunderous applause and cheering or just wild laughing. Okay, yes. ELEVEN OUT OF FIVE.

I'm not too excited to see it, given that Thor was so-so, Hulk struck out twice, Captain America was a one-time go, and Iron Man 2 suffered sequelitis.  But I'm glad to see the praise.  I was supposed to see it with comic nerd, but shit ain't working.  So me and the boyfriend...when the goddamn lineups get smaller.

Yeah, I'm glad for the praise as well, was skeptical because I feel pretty much the same as Dice (Though I disliked Iron Man 2 for many more reasons than just sequelitis), so basically only 1 out of what, 5 movies of The Avengers buildup was actually good. Now I just have to find time to go see it.

Yeah, saw the avengers too. Gotta admit....was definitely impressive. I personally disliked the cheap puns and jokey moments they used (one scene where hulk and thor are standing side by side comes to mind), but I gladly can forgive that based on the rest of the awesomeness of the flick. I definitely approve of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk (he did the motion capturing for the hulk in this movie, making him officially the only actor to play both roles), and Jeremy Renner made Hawkeye, who I never really found impressive in the cartoon or comic books, be so damned awesome. Everything done in this movie was spot on outside my little gripe about the humor. If you enjoyed any of the recent marvel movies, then this is a movie you want to see.

Also of note, the trailer for amazing spiderman blew my mind.

You're a goofball. The humor was perfect.

Renner is ok... but to be honest I think he's got a scrunched up magoo face

Some of the humor felt like they tried too hard, almost like Joss Whedon felt that if he couldn't get the movie to sell itself at this point, at least people will laugh as .....well the moment I mentioned earlier. I may be a slight bit overly critical, but The Avengers as a franchise is always very second tier compared to other comic stuff, and on top of the newer series being dropped, I just felt that the extra humor was making it something more than it needed to be. It was funny, I laughed at every moment, but on a quick look back, I didn't see some of it as necessary (again, the thor and hulk moment).

It was kind of like in Iron Man 2, when Stark grabs that shield and said it was perfect. Then he uses it as a fucking shim basically. Yes, people laughed, but it was a cheap laugh, especially if you're nerdy enough to know why it was a cheap laugh (the metal he created is what cap's shield is later made of, vibranium, or at least that's what it was hinted at).

I guess I'm being overly critical because honestly....the movie was astounding. I find no other real faults with it, outside of ...
Code:
Agent Coulson's OBVIOUS faked death, he's sort of a big S.H.I.E.L.D. character if I remember right and Clark Gregg is already in talks about reprising his role again in the sequel
. They could have done a better plot device.than that, especially with the trading cards....I mean cmon.

Yoda, eat my ass Renner is awesome, and Mr. Magoo is the fucking man.

I don't know a whole lot about hawkeye, except I used to play him in the arcade game, but they did a good job with him.

He just looked pissy through the whole movie.

I want to see this again this week, sneak in some jim beam.

Saw it while visiting an old friend/former bandmate I had not seen in 8 years.  So seeing The Avengers was good.  Seeing it with one of my best friends (after a long time) and then acting like idiotic wannabe superhero-rock stars the rest of the day= priceless.

Damn, I'm jealous. This is a movie I really had no interest in until all the praise showed up. A rock star comic book movie just seemed like a really bad idea. I'm glad it worked out. I'll probably take my son with me to see it in a couple weeks.

*avoiding the double post*

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol -
This was just a totally fun movie. It had some of the most inventive action set pieces I've ever seen. It was basically set up like a roller coaster ride. Crazy action, planning, crazy action, planning, crazy action, planning, etc. etc. This was actually good because you needed a little breather between the crazy shit going on in this movie. It even made me forget that Tom Cruise is an insane nutjob! Everyone was great, although I'm kind of getting tired of seeing Simon Pegg get cast as the goofy sidekick. That might be what he's best at, but I'd still like to see him broaden his horizons a bit.
The movie wasn't perfect, of course. There's a lot going on that can be kind of hard to follow at times. Plus, the characters doing things that make no sense considering the stakes. Only in the movies is all that goes on here possible. I guess when it comes down to it, that's why the movie is so much fun.
