In the Name of the Father -
I know nothing about the never ending conflict involving the IRA, England, and whoever else is(was?) involved. This movie helped rectify that a tad, but the real story here is the father son dynamic. Both Daniel Day-Lewis and Pete Postlethwaite are amazing in these roles. What they are put through over the course of many years is heartbreaking. Even after the truth comes out! The movie really makes the British police force look bad, although I imagine the things they do, and get away with, are very much based in truth. Desperate people do desperate, and often inhumane, things. Emma Thompson is her usual amazing self here. Her final plea to the judge and jury was so emotional and stirring. This is a great film. It's also a true story, which makes it all the more poignant. I'm on a hot streak with "true" story movies. I should probably quit while I'm ahead.
