“I believe that, like me, the people behind these robberies are extreme athletes, using their skills to disrupt the international financial markets, and they don’t care who gets killed in the process.” - Real Quote!!!

It honestly has the potential to be as, if not more, stupid horrible amazing as Jupiter Ascending.

It's probably only a matter of time before someone tries to redo Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.

While we're all still talking about Mad Max. What was up the dudes spray painting their mouth/teeth area with silver 'vahalla' spray paint? I think the only answer I could discover was that the silver made their teeth stand out more so they face looks more skull like to remind them they're going to their deaths.

Apparently there's already silver spray by chefmaster for all those Mad Max cosplayers out there:

I just took it as another aspect of the car motif for the setting (they specifically use the word chrome multiple times) and not really something you need to think too deeply about. Like a lot of the film it wasn't something they felt the need to specifically explain in the dialogue.

The Number 23 - I remember wanting to see this when it first came out. Mainly for the reason that most people wanted to: Jim Carrey in a thriller/scary film. It's about a mild-mannered dog catcher who comes across a mysterious book. Upon reading it, he notices that the main character's experiences in the story therein have striking similarities to events in his own life.
This movie is some weird shit. The first half a terrible neo-noir piece, but then the film moves to a passable thriller in the second half. The twist near the end got me, so I'd say it was effective to that end. One thing: In that first half, there is way too much unnecessary sex. Jesus, I never thought I'd say those last two words together... Seriously though, the point could have come across without so much Skinemax action. It just starts to become tasteless. Felt like the director was trying to make his soft core porn aspirations come true.
I don't know if I could recommend it overall. The story itself is interesting in it's own right, and Carrey does do a good job, but the first half of the movie is just bad.

http://comicbook.com/2015/06/07/sandman-is-going-to-be-a-grand-spectacular-action-film-with-no-p/

Two MASSIVE concerns about Joseph Gordon Levitt playing Morpheus/Dream/my favorite comic book character ever.  1)I'm not sure that the guy who danced in the streets to "You Make My Dreams Come True" in 500 Days of Summer could ever brood hard enough to be completely believable as Morpheus and 2) It's going to be REALLLLLLY hard to jam Neil Gaimon's magnum opus into a <2 hours film... like almost impossible.  I am excite, just tentatively so.

of course, the REAL question we all should be asking is whether or not they'll actually cast David Bowie as Lucifer Morningstar.  Christ, I hope so.

I hope he'll do well, but I'm also nervous about whether he's the right choice for this role.

I just watched a movie from the '80s called Johnny Dangerously, with Michael Keaton as a goofy gangster dude, enjoyed it.  It's free on Amazon Prime...

This has to be my Favorite B Comedy ever.
I find it extremely quotable.

Penguins of Madagascar - Fun flick. There are a few modern animated movie tropes present, but for the most part, it's refreshingly funny and innovative. A surprising amount of heart at times, too. Very good voice acting overall (I love Malkovich).
Went great with pizza and beer.

I saw Jurassic World last night. It was by no means comparable to the original classic, but it was still really enjoyable. My complaints while minor are as follows:

1. The two kids were flat characters overall.
2. The female lead character was mostly annoying. Not the actresses fault, but the way the character was written.
3. Even with all the advances in CG since the original film, the dinos still looked very fake for the most part.

Good things:

1. Everything to do with Chris Pratt and the raptors.
2. The climax was pretty frickin' awesome.

Definitely worth checking out.

^ So i guess Joss Whedon was right?  Shame.
I'm happy Pratt's on his game; I always thought the guy was A-list material stuck in B-grade for over decade.

What was Joss Whedon right about?

He made a tweet saying the Bryce Dallas Howard in JW was a stiff (or just annoying from your post) while Pratt was a "life force".  He got criticized and regretted it -- but from what I'm reading it seems kinda true now?

I'm definitely still reeling Charlize Theron as Furiosa; I hate making a "gender thing" about it, but since it only happens so often it's surprisingly nice to see awesome action chicks. ;P

BOLT

I've catching up on a few Disney flick I missed and this is one of them.

It's really cute but pretty pedestrian.  The idea's aren't out there even though the concept is a lot of fun (and I'd never complain about watching a pooch for an hour and a half).  The hamster, wonderfully named RHINO, is probably the most unique and fun of the bunch for going into everything he does with such a fun attitude.  I also like that while Bolt is under an illusion that the TV show he works on is real, I was really happy when the "truth is revealed" the film doesn't waste a lot of time with the "IT WAS ALL A LIE?!" segment that a lot of movies go through where a character needs to feel sorry for themselves for a spell.

Not to be "politically correct" for...y'know, cartoon dogs, but I thought the cutest touch was the Bolt calls Penny "his person" instead of "his master".  Dunno about you but when I hang with my dog I feel like we're buddies and far from considering the relationship that "I POSSES and OWN my dog".
The dumb girl barely sits when I ask her to anyways; she needs to see a cookie in front of her before she'd consider listening to me....

I'm glad that you thought it was at least OK, since I recommended it so strongly.  Not a lot worse than telling someone about a movie you love and then having them hate it. :)

In case you're curious, here's a quick interview with the guy who played Rhino.  Sound quality's not the best.  He's a friend of mine, and like he says, he pretty much just plays himself in the movie.  Except that in real life, he's 6' 8".

Sorry I was being a little harsh, I thought it was a lot of fun but the idea just didn't wow me compared to some others is what I meant (the dog being separated from his owner isn't terribly original; but I like the 'other half of the story' where he's an 'acting dog').  I will be having it to rewatch again though. :D

LOVE the interview, I have a real admiration for getting voices where they do want that 'natural' presentation to them.  Or the cases where creators know who they want to act/voice a character WHILE they're developing them -- I think it's great.  I also like that he's drawing during the interview. xD
Hope he has more roles lined up in the future, whether as an aritst, writer, or voice actor.

Finally saw Gone Girl last night. Wasn't too fond of it. I was glad when the narration stopped about halfway through, 'cause I found that woman's stilted, breathy narration voice to be obnoxious as hell. Didn't really see the twist coming, which was cool. But then I didn't think the ending worked at all.

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of the unresolved ending in movies, I find it usually ends up feeling lazy rather than poignant. I'm not saying it can never work, but this was one of those times where I felt like it didn't. One reason being that if they wanted to end it like that, why drag the movie out for two and a half hours?
