I just finished watching Gran Torino.  I'm a bit torn on how to digest the movie and may have to watch it again.  I'm a huge Eastwood fan, and this movie was definitely great, but the other stuff is a bit heavy to grapple with.

I've watched a few movies lately. The weirdest was Paprika, definitely really out there and something I'm glad I watched with another person because it was needed to be able to look to my side and go 'wtf?' sometimes. The worst was by far Manos the Hands of Fate, just horrible, even without knowing it was bad beforehand because of MST3K and the internet it still would have been stupidly bad. I also seen Date Night last weekend, it was pretty funny, not a great movie but I laughed.

With any luck I'm going to see Kick-Ass tomorrow, I'm looking forward to it a lot.

Paprika was fucked.  A good fucked, though.  One thing I liked was that while the whole movie is about 'dreams', the sequences where the characters are wandering around in them feeling nothing short of what a dreaming-experience feels like (for me at least).

When they show the cop at the beginning; and his partner shot, but he never quite hits the ground.  As much as the cop tries to run, he's stopped by his dreams' sluggish movement.  The way he was whipped up in the cage, and falling into the same stage he was on a moment later.  Very strange - but again; it felt as cohesive as dreams actually are!

Watched Jesus Camp for class...  While there are numerous things wrong with the movie (such as religious portrayals, the fact that they were likely mislead to have the film-makers do a documentery only to be mocked after, and the mullet that one kid had).  But definitely a crazy thing to watch.  Scary stuff, I feel horrible for the kids.

Slammin Salmon is awesome.
All right, we are going to use a fan brush here and uh why don't you take some hunter green and we are going to put a happy little bush right down over here in the corner there and that'll just be our little secret and if you tell anyone that that bush is there I will come to your house and I will cut you.

Saw How to Train Your Dragon (in 3D) this week.  Just as good as everyone lead me to believe it would be. :)

Saw "Precious: based on the novel Push by Sapphire".

It was a moving experience, I think.

I was moved, but it was very manipulative. It was purposly trying to move me, which in turn lessened the effect somewhat. Still a good movie.

If you want a truly moving experience look no further than Grave of the Fireflies. Man, I love that movie.

I just watched The Wolfman, well at least I was told I did, I can't remember anything than being utterly bored.

Just watched Synecdoche, New York. Easily my least favorite Kaufman movie - it got a little too mindfucky and confusing for its own good.

But after reading a few reviews and explanations online, the movie kinda makes SOME sense.

I watched Avatar again, The Men Who Stare at Goats(again), and Precious. All good movies.
Oh, and The Lovely Bones. It was alright but they should have spent more time on the actual story instead of omitting key points in favor of spiffy special effects. Oh well, movies rarely hold up to books anyway.
