Just like Mark, I found GameFAQs' joke to be quite hilarious. I thought the GameSpot article was rather uninspiring. Even though it is interesting that IGN has refrained from posting any April Fools stories (at least one the sub-sites I checked), while the ever serious GameSpot posted one.

Everything IGN publishes is a joke anyway, so they probably thought it'd be redundant.

Edit: Oh yeah, Gamespot actually published two April Fool's stories. There is also the one about World of Starcraft. Didn't find that one very amusing at all, however.

The funniest thing about April Fool's Day is to read all the rants on the discussion boards from people who don't get the jokes. The World of Warcraft messege boards are the most amusing, as several people fail to understand that the new Alliance race isn't the Wisps, or that the 1.11 patch notes aren't real.

They were kinda popular back then, good rival of RPGamer. 4 years ago during April fool's day, they did a sudden announcement about shutting down their community. Everyone refused to rise to the bait (me included), and everyone expected the website to be normally operational on April 2nd, but in reality it wasn’t a joke and the website was never opened again!

In a way, being convinced the whole thing was an April fool’s joke was actually what make everyone rise to the bait…
