book burns? and god i dont think ive been in that hell hole since i fought asuran fists NM.
As Agent D said, they are mini-quests in many areas that tell you to kill x amount of monsters and then rewards you with EXP, gil and tabs (Special currency for books) at the end. So basically they're like a lot of the filler WoW quests, with even less context. They're there for leveling and not much else.
They used to be one per vana'diel day (~1 real life hour), but they changed it so that you can do it as many times as you like, with the gil and tab rewards restricted to one per vana'diel day. They also added the option of having the quest automatically refresh itself each time you complete it so you don't have to run back to the book constantly.
Generally indoor areas are preferred (Like Oubliette), because they have building exp. Each time you complete a page it will increase a slight bit in experience rewarded up to a point, and you have a chance of gaining a random buff as long as you stay in the area (Includes if you logout in the area), ranging from increased crystal drops to increased magic attack/accuracy.
In Oubliette, one of the pages tells you to kill 9 Bloodsuckers. If you've ever been in the bottom area of the zone you would know that the place is crawling with tons of the things, so even if you only get about 5 exp per kill, it won't matter, because every 9 kills you'll get a bonus of anywhere from 2000-4000 experience points depending on how long you've been there. They go down real fast, and they lowered respawns to 5 minutes, so in large groups the exp can flow in pretty fast.
Tabs arn't that useful- you can use them to buff yourself up with haste, protect, shell, reraise and some weak food effects, but since they all remain for the standard duration (Except for the haste which lasts something like 10 minutes), if you wander pretty far from the book for your page it doesn't do much. It does offer to send you back to your home nation/home point though, which is nice since lots of areas have them.
Waiting for my destrier beret...but it doesn't seem to be coming.
I don't remember if this applies to destrier beret, but a couple of the bonus items in the game require you to talk to a
certain moogle in-game after you've registered your code to recieve them rather than getting them in your delivery box.
Also what's your ingame name?
Is it me or are the vast majority of the AF's post Zilart look ridiculous on male models?
Personally I've always liked the PUP AF, and I think the COR AF looks fine. The Dancer AF they probably couldn't do much about (I think the Empyrean's black looks pretty damn good on male models though). I can't say I'm a huge fan of Geomancer or Fencer's AF though. Geomancer might look better on Tarutaru however, so I guess that's good for me.
