Hey peeps just spent the last 5 months on Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2....Very Nice!! Now i need a quick RPG to play in the next few weeks while i wait for my FF12 guide to arrive.

So far im leaning towards:

Tales OF Legendia
Radiata Stories
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana

OR any other quality "shorter" RPGs on the PS2.
Shame cos i know DDS 1 & 2 are short rpgs :P

You could use a GameGenie on Dragon Warrior on the NES, max out everything, and beat it in about half an hour. That help?

... Seriously though, Contact's short, but it's got mixed opinions, and the combat can be boring enough to make it seem as long as some other RPG anyway. I think I only took about 20-30 hours on M&L2 though. Those three should be fairly short, thoguh I think I took 40-ish on AI, or nearly 40.

The shortest on PS2 are probably KH and KH2, from what I played. I finished both at 20 hours apiece easily.

For the more traditional RPGs, Wild Arms 4 isn't that long, IIRC, and neither is Suikoden IV or Grandia III.

SuikIV's sailing IS slow and boring, and teleportation you earn later on can be randomly blocked for dumb plot triggers, even non-serious ones like recruiting a star. It's not as bad as everyone claims it is though, so it's a good time waster if nothing else.

Did you even have FUN beating those games in 20 hours? Jesus.

...yes.

Though to be fair I went back and replayed both in their entirety, and KH took me 36, KH2 took me 87 after I finished everything.

Devil Summoner is about as short as each of the DDS games.  But also like the DDS games, it won't be short if you're one of those obsessive types who likes to spend hours grinding out levels and abilities.

Most RPGs have tons of secrets and optional content to extend the gameplay by 10+ hours. Nothing is short if you are an obsessive player.

Growlansers 2 and 3 are both very short (under 20 hours), but you could play through them multiple times to get all the different endings and characters.

The Atelier Iris games are short (under 25 hours), unless you want to find and make all the items.

Drakengard can be finished in 10 hours, unless you're a freak and want to level up all the weapons and get all the endings.

Disgaea 2 could take you less than 25 hours to finish, but it has 60+ hours worth of extras.

To only two truely short RPGs that I can think of are Shadow Hearts and Ys: The Ark of Napishtim. I recommend both.

I'll give another shout out for Wild Arms 4. It wasn’t too challenging and I finished it in around 25 hours. It’s a lot less epic than the earlier Wild Arms games.

I second Ark of Napishtim. It's a fun game too.

Whoa, whoa, I love Tales of Legendia (I'm...one of the few who do ^^;,) but it's actually quite a long game.

I'm gonna put another vote for Wild Arms 4. It's a shorter rpg than most with likable characters and a REALLY fun (and quick!) battle system.

Wild Arms 4 (by far my favorite in the series) & either of the Atelier Iris games are all excellent choices (I'm going through Atelier Iris 2 at the moment and loving it).  And like Salinger, if you're fine with old RPGs, for $20 or less, you can pick you up the recently released Sega Genesis collection and get the excellent Phantasy Star 4 along with several other good older games.
