John Petrucci - Wishful Thinking.

At least some of the tracks on his solo album aren't the jugga jugga stuff he likes doing of late.

Star Witness by Neko Case

My true love drowned in a dirty old pan of oil
That had run from the block
Of a Falcon sedan 1969.
The paper said ‘75.
There were no survivors
None found alive.

Trees break the sidewalk
And the sidewalk skins my knee.
There’s glass in my thermos and blood on my jeans
Nickels and dimes of the 4th of July
Growing off in a crooked line to the chain link lots where the red tails dive
Oh how I’d forgot what it’s like

Hey when she sings when she sings when she sings like she runs
Moves like she runs
Hey when she moves when she moves when she moves like she runs
Moves like she runs
Hey there there’s such tender wolves ‘round town tonight
Round the town tonight
Hey there there’s such tender wolves ‘round town tonight
Round the town tonight

Hey pretty baby get high with me
We can go to my sister’s if we say we’ll watch the baby
The look on your face yanks my neck on the chain
And I would do anything to see you again

So I’ve fallen behind…

Hey when she sings when she sings when she sings like she runs
Moves like she runs
Hey when she moves when she moves when she moves like she runs
Moves like she runs
Hey there there’s such tender wolves ‘round town tonight
Round the town tonight
Hey there there’s such tender wolves ‘round town tonight
Round the town tonight

Go on go on and scream and cry
You’re miles from where anyone will find you
This is nothing new, no television crew
They don’t even put on the siren.
And right down the street the pavement bleeds.
Don’t let ‘em die…

Oh how I’d forgot…

Dancing Through Sunday - A.F.I.

I really like the music for this song. The lyrics are pretty good, though you can tell A.F.I. was pretty much the creators of the crap emo genre (post-punk as the MTV sheep call it). But unlike the regular crap emo band that writes piss poor lyrics and plays predictable music A.F.I. is actually, ya know, good.

Porcupine Tree - Stop Swimming

Beautiful song. Great lyrics, too. This band seems to have a knack for creating great album-closers. ;)

This song leaks out onto the pavement
It could be a joke, it could be a statement
The more that I fake it and pretend I don't care
The more you can read in to what isn't there

Maybe it's time to stop swimming
Maybe it's time to find out where I'm at
What I should do and where I should be
But no-one will give me a map

I'll leave now this can't continue
But I forget which door I came through
And I know that the lift can be painfully slow
So I think I'll leave through the window

I'm a Cuckoo - Belle and Sebastian (Dear Catastrophe Waitress)
                  or
Fired - Ben Folds (Rockin' the Suburbs)

The first is Seriously a fantastic CD, as for Ben Folds, iv'e been spinning that album for about 3 years now and i'm still not sick of it.

Today's song is "Bat Out of Hell" by Meat Loaf.  I swear, most power metal has nothing on this cheesiness. :P
