Watched Casino Royale again, this time with relatives. Still excellent the second time-- I enjoyed it a little more, maybe because I could pay attention to other details. Idiots in the audience though.

All of their major classics (Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast etc.) are released for about 6 months, and then Disney put them back in their 'vault.' The idea being that when they decide to release them again, they can ask the price of a new DVD. If they stayed on the market, the prices would drop. This makes it bloody difficult to pick up some of the best ones without paying 3-4 times the RRP.

Speaking of Disney, I just watched Hercules. Hadn't seen it since it was first out. It's good, but nothing special.

Watched Lady in The Water last night. It was...weird. Not in a bad or good way. I found the whole film mildly interesting, but nowhere near as interesting as M. Night Whatshisname's previous movies. He made quite an appearance in this one.

I can't remember if its right or not now, but disney releases used to be on a 7 year cycle, so they would re-release a version of each film at least once every seven years. I had no idea they were still doing something like that with their dvds though. What really annoyed me was that the disney channel itself would only show the films for a few months, then never show them again, its ridiculous.

Are you interested in more historical war movies like the ones you've mentioned, or more modern ones? For modern ones Full Metal Jacket is cool. Thin Red Line as well.

Hmm.  I've wanted to see this movie since I watched the making of it on Project Greenlight.  Unfortunately my local Hollywood video store doesn't carry it and I'm not about to buy it unseen.

I'm on vacation so I've watched a crap load of movies.  Yes that signifies amount and quality for some.

The Wicker Man -  Oh Nicholas Cage, how I loved you in Raising Arizona.  You were excellent in Leaving Las Vegas and you truly deserved the Oscar.  Oh how the mighty have fallen.  Is your new marriage to the 20- something driving you to the poor house?  Do you take roles that aren't up to snuff and phone in your performance just to collect a check?  Your performance was meant to be dramatic but it came off as unintentionally comedic.  Hope you do better in Ghost Rider.  Honestly, I thought setting myself on fire would be a better alternative than watching this movie.  

Step up  -  Okay one of my guilty pleasures are dancing movies.  I love Bring it On (have it on dvd) and a few musicals that feature dancing like Grease.  So I thought this movie would be, well not great, but decent.  I was so wrong.  The lead guy's acting was bad.  He was decent in She's the Man, but here he just stinks.  I know it's a dancing movie so perhaps I shouldn't be focusing on the acting so much.  So yeah the dancing =  nothing exciting.  I didn't want to rewatch any of it.  I actually found myself looking out the window at the birds during the movie since they were more interesting; I kid you not.  So yeah step back from Step Up.  (Bad pun but I couldn't resist.)    

Miami Vice -  The cinematography is great (that's the best thing I can say about the movie).   The rest of the movie was okay.  Perhaps I'm ultra jaded but I always laugh when people fall  in love so quickly.  Falling in lust is more like it.  So when people act like it's some great love, I just scoff and roll my eyes.  Other nit-picky things I didn't like:  Colin Farrel's hair.  My god what was that?  Some people should never ever go blonde and Colin is one of them.  Also it looked greasy and mullet like.  It was very distracting.  Oh also for some reason I had trouble making out what everyone was saying.  I turned the subtitles on.  I hardly ever do that for an English language movie spoken without British accents.  

Pulse -  Well I read really bad reviews of this movie and how it's not as good as the original Japanese movie it was based on.  Luckily for me, I haven't seen the original so I actually liked it.   Plus I like Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) and the guy from Lost (Boone) was pretty darn cute.  It's not a recommended buy but most definitely a rent.    

The Devil Wears Prada -  I totally wasn't interested in it when it hit the theaters but since now I'm an Ugly Betty fan, I gave this movie a go.  It's a pretty good movie.  The only unbelievable part for me was her not doing everything possible to hang on to her hot boyfriend.  Hello!  Can she not see how good looking and sweet he is?  The only negative thing about the movie is that it fed my negative body image.  The whole size 6 being fat made me feel bad about myself.  Silly I know.  I actually ran on the treadmill for 40 minutes after watching the movie.  

Cinderella (KMV)  -  Yeah I thought this was some romantic movie but it's really a horror film about the lengths people go to either be or have their loved ones be pretty.  It's this supernatural thriller that contains not only suicide but kidnapping, unethical use of surgery, and of course an angry asian girl with long hair, hell bent on killing people.

Batman Begins - Finally saw this and couldn't come at a better time since I've been in a big Dark Knight mood since Christmas. I might be a bit biased but I really think this is the best comic book inspired film out there.

I thought Miami Vice was pretty poor. I didn't even like the cinematography. I usually like Michael Mann's handheld close-up style (Collateral = MAJOR LOVE), but Miami Vice just went too far, it was really distracting. And I agree about the dialogue, ridiculously hard to understand, and I was watching it in the cinema, so I couldn't turn subtitles on :P

I'm still on the Bond films, watched Dr No last night. Really really good. Connery is undoubtedly the best Bond.

And no one watched "A Christmas Story" during the holidays?  For shame, people.  One yardstick I measure Christmas by is not by how much I consumed, but by how many times I watched "A Christmas Story."  I saw it 4 times.  

And if you didn't watch it, you'll shoot your eye out. :P

Just watched The Libertine. I've seen a lot of bad reviews for this movie online, but I thought it was not just excellent, but REALLY excellent.

Oh, and Dincrest, I skipped A Christmas Story this year in favor of Santa's Slay. Bill Goldberg in a Santa suit shooting fireballs out his mouth = bliss.
