This might be old news (I haven't been keeping much of a finger on the metal pulse as of late), but in the expectation that at least one of you other metalheads hadn't heard this either:
Judas Priest is doing a concept album about Nostradamus.
This could either be the greatest thing ever or the worst. I don't forsee much middle ground. :P

I think it's kinda of odd that Priest and Maiden are both releasing new concept albums now.
Anyway, if he's telling the truth about new sounds and whatnot in their style,t hen this could be very cool. Although I'm not holding my breath for good lyrical content. After all, this is Priest. :P
faster than a laser bullet, louder than an atom bomb, chromium plated boiling metal, brighter than a thousand suns
What the
fuck
is that, Hammerfall writes better lyrics. :P

Let's just hope it's better than last year's album. I haven't listened to it since I bought it.

Priest rules, but yeah this is a big question mark for me. I don't listen to them because
OMG THEY'RE SO DEEP AND INSPIRATIONAL <3<3<333
, they just for some reason put me in a good mood (or at least an energized one). I liked Angel of Retribution a lot, but lyrically...
Painkiller...I'm convinced that song is about a Christ-related acid trip. What the fuck else could possibly inspire that shit?
However, Rob Halford can pull off ANYTHING. He could sing a ballad about a wolf penis slaughtering virgins in the land of Honnolly under watch of God and Satan, and as long as he falsettoed his ass off and Priest was behind him, it'd kick ass.

Please God, let that album happen.

I echo everyone elses sentiments, basically. But as Dave said, as long as the music's good it doesn't matter with Priest. I mean, Painkiller may have ridiculous lyrics, but fuck me if it isn't one of the best metal songs ever.

I went and took a look at the Stained Class album, and it really is the best of their work lyrically. Take a gander at
Savage
:
Quote
Who gives you the right to come here and tell me
I have to leave this place my home
To you it's a jungle, to me it's a kingdom
Where people are free there to roam
Born with the stars we are happy and peaceful
'Til now we were left undisturbed
But you rupture the forests our gardens
And fill them with filth from your cities unheard
Savage, who is savage
Leave your morals, stake your claim
Savage, you are savage
Modern man can take the blame
You poisoned my tribe with civilised progress
Baptising our blood with disease
You christened our bodies with sadness and suffering
Saying then that your god is well-pleased
What have we done to deserve such injustice
Explain to us please if you can
But you can't, no you can't, we can see it in your eyes
Of us both who's the primitive man
Savage, who is savage
Leave your morals, stake your claim
Savage, you are savage
Modern man can take the blame
You poisoned my tribe with civilised progress
Baptising our blood with disease
You christened our bodies with sadness and suffering
Saying then that your god is well-pleased
What have we done to deserve such injustice
Explain to us please if you can
But you can't, no you can't, we can see it in your eyes
Of us both who's the primitive man
Savage, savage
Savage, savage
Who's the savage
Modern man
Who's the savage
Modern man
[/size]
I really like this album as a whole...Beyond The Realms of Death is just fucking great all the way around... maybe we're too pessimistic?
Maybe?

Most of Priest's first few albums (barring the first one) are quite strong lyrically. They don't really start to decline until "Hell Bent For Leather" and "British Steel", where they first start to get in the sci-fi/biker rut.
