So, let's see, this year I've beaten:
Persona 3 - 9/10
Koudelka - 7/10
Suikoden 2 - 8/10
Xenogears - 5/10
Kingdom Hearts - 6/10
Shadow Hearts - 7/10
Not bad. :P Those are ratings by the way, in case someone is wondering.

I barely finished anything this year. I still haven't finished DDS2, or The Answer in Persona 3.
My NY resolution is to finish games once I start them.

Of course.
Xenogears tried to do something different with it's story, but most of the elements are so superficial and unnecessary it's not even funny. It's like they were hell-bent on adding religious references and left the flow of the plot on a back burner. Characters were uninteresting and I couldn't care less what happens to 'em. Gameplay was frustrating due to platforming segments (come on, when your game has an incompetent 3D engine, why the hell would you add platforming into your game??) and exploring various locations was extremely painful because of the horrible engine. Music made my ears bleed; for the first time I muted my TV while playing a game (battle themes were okay though). I've never done that before. The only saving grace for the game was the battle system which I enjoyed.
Kingdom Hearts wasn't THAT bad, it just had a wonky camera and the worlds had mediocre level design. Oh, and Square's portion of the game brought down the game for me. More Disney, less Square.

You slag Xenogears and then try to elevate Kingdom Hearts?
You sir are in possession of the BIGGEST sack of bullshit this board has seen in years.

I came in fully expecting to say this was kind of a lame year for me, but wow. I didn't realize I beat that many this year. Not that it'll change unless I blitz through something, but it was still pretty good.

Eh, I didn't really like Xenogears all that much either. It was kind of superficial, to be honest... a lot of pandering to the type of anime heads who love a lot of needlessly convoluted psuedo-religious elements in their plots (ie: Evangelion Neon Genesis). I didn't care for Xenogears much in the same way I didn't like Eva. The music wasn't too bad, one of Mitsuda's better soundtracks (allthough apart from Chrono Trigger, I'm not a big fan of Mitsuda), so I won't agree that the music made my ears bleed. It was still nothing on Uematsu's FF6-9s soundtracks, though, but it was a good solid second-rate effort. His soundtracks went WAY downhill after Xenogears though. The battlesystem was interestingly different, if kinda repeatitive, and some of the story was interesting. Overall, I liked it a lot better than Chrono Chross, but honestly, 6/10 is probably about right.
Kingdom Hearts, however, I couldn't finish, or really even get into. Terrible battle system, tiny dungeons that were somehow impossible to navigate, shitty dialog, and all of the life sucked out of the disney characters... that game sucked, I'm sorry, but it did.
