Well since this was released in stores today I think, I was wondering if anyone has picked it up and given it a try?  So far the only two reviews are in Play and Nintendo Power Magazines according to meta critic, so theres nothing to read on the net yet.

Yep.

I played the Japanse version and I'll say this. You'll grow attached to the characters.

The only flaws I notice is sound quality (come on the DS can do better than that!) and the animation in battle can get VERY mundane and repetitive.

I'm highly interested in this title and will be scurrying off to the city later to find a copy.  It should be a pretty fun game.  I usually don't like playing too many Srpgs in close intervals, but Fire Emblem: DS seems like a long way off so I'm not too worried =P

I bought it yesterday and this game in not for those who want to recklessly attack foes and sustaining little damage.

Since the RMS tends to make you rethink your strategy.
I died on the first stage a few times before completing the objective.

Luckily you can restart stages and keep your earned EXP.

The difficulty spirals to insane later in the game. LOL.

Of course, as it has been said before I'll say it again for extra measure. this game requires THINKING. Rushing in like a Kamikaze is not gonna let you complete this game. EVER.

How would you rate the difficulty compared to either of the GBA Fire Emblems?

I'm on like the 10th battle and I would say it is about the same difficulty as the Fire Emblem games. There are battles that are harder than others. Some of them were a breeze though. Thats why everyone says the difficulty spikes randomly.

Plus mages become really important later on. (Scratch that some of the spells are more likely to hit your own teamates the AOE ones.)

But there is a new game plus or so i heard.

I'm on stage 3 and am retrying the stage with my party to retain exp.

Well if your characters fall in battle and you proceed to the next stage, they will suffer stat loss for the next battle. In a sense its less of a headache when it comes to losing characters like in FE.

However, stat losses are very crippling in this game.

The difficulty spikes alot, some stages are easy, some are just brain wreckingly hard.

Spells and attacks with range need planning as they care not for friend or foe, so friendly fire can get nasty, especially if you get hit by a powerful spell. Megido Flare is a pain to use because of this.

To sum up this game though.. its like playing chess.

Since Fire Emblem is one of my favourite series and this looks like Fire Emblem, I'm VERY interested in it!

Ugh, the same reason why I get all agitated when I play Wild ARM's XF is the same reason I get all agitated when I played this game.  I am an old man, I am used to my strategy being more like a chess game, I guess... More power to those who love it, I applaud you for it!

I really wanted to try and like this game too, but when I get that feeling that the game REALLY wants me NOT to enjoy it, then it goes back to where it came from.  Thank goodness for rentals.

I was interested, but hearing of the difficulty level combined with the fact I'm not the biggest fan of SRPGs or have plenty of experience with them like more traditional RPGs... Meh, there's plenty of other games coming out that I want, or those that ARE out.
