Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada EP
Explosions in the Sky - How Strange, Innocence
Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese

Couldn't find any of the CDs I was looking for, but I'm pretty content with my purchases, especially the Godspeed You! Black Emperor EP.

Nice snag, Nemmit. I love GSY!BE and ETS. I hear a lot about Primus (besides the fact that they made the South Park theme), but I haven't given them a good listen.

FINALLY got my copy of Maiden's "A Matter Of Life and Death" today.  The whole album is awesome if you ask me.  I don't really have a favorite track so far.  I only wish I could go see them play in Quebec next week. God, that would be awesome!

Oh my God, guys.

I'm REALLY digging A Matter of Life And Death.

I mean like every track!

Right now my favorite is For The Greater Good of God...

..although These Colours Don't Run and it's psuedo-FF3 Boss Music moment is pretty fucking badass.

Yikes. What about Godspeed appeals to you? I find them horribly depressing and just generally fucked up. I can't remember which album of theirs I listened to in part (I couldn't deal with the rest; that is some depressing shit) but I remember the line "I opened my wallet, and it was full of blood" or something like that. Creepy.

Methinks I need to get me some Godspeed :P

I did get:

Dream Theater - Score DVD - Pretty damn good. The first set doesn't do a lot for me, as I think they chose some pretty boring songs, but the second set with the orchestra is great. Made me wish I could go to the gig I saw again :(

Blind Guardian - A Twist in the Myth - Haven't listened to it all yet. It sounds OK, nothing special.

David Gilmour - self-titled - I enjoyed this a lot. But then I love David Gilmour

David Gilmour - About Face - Haven't yet listened.

ZZ Top - Greatest Hits - You damn right :P

The opening monologue of f#a#∞ is indeed the eeriest part of the album, and the passage that follows shortly after, called The Cowboy, is also very depressing. The music is so goddamn incredible though. The part of East Hastings after the Dead Flag Blues reprise begins so subtlely (if you've seen the empty city scene in 28 Days Later, you've heard it) but the way it builds up is hard to describe in words. The disc is full of such moments along with the ambient passages which I'm a real sucker for.

There's another monologue at the beginning of the last song that is a lot more hopeful, though, if that helps.

Edit: Looking through at Godspeed's official discography page, I found something you guys might appreciate.

"bbf3" [the second track on the Slow Riot EP] stands for "blaise bailey finnegan III," a variation on the name of former iron maiden vocalist, blaze bayley.

Strange reference.

Is that who does that music in 28 Days Later?! I've always wondered that, but never actually bothered to look it up. Which of their albums would you recommend I try, Nemmet?

East Hastings was only used once, and I'm pretty sure it was the empty city scene. The director made a great decision using that music, since it fits so well with that feeling of isolation.

Definitely start with f#a#∞. After familiarizing yourself with the album, listening to it lying in bed at night is the best way to really experience it. It's incredible.

Same, got it today.  Great album, much better than the snooze-fest that was A Night At the Opera.

According to this, GSY!BE was rumored to compose the soundtrack, but John Murphy ended up doing it. Some of their songs appear on it, though. So do Brian Eno and Grandaddy, actually. I should pick this up.

Cheers! I will add the Godspeed CD to my wishlist!

I picked up Audioslave - Revelations.

So far it's OK. No tracks have really jumped out at me, unlike the previous two albums.
