I bought the Mercyful Fate album "Dead Again" the other day.  I used to have a copy of it, but a friend of mine moved out of state with it after I lent it to her.  The whore.

Man, this thing kicks more ass than I remember.  And I remember it kicking a lot of ass. :P

Okay, Pitchfork reviewed 1000 Days. Their tagline is sort of amusing:

Quote
Rather than delving further into experimentation or exploring their strengths, the world's most well-loved prog-metal band has made an...A Perfect Circle record.

Three reasons.

1) They gave Lateralus a 1.0/10.

2) As such, it's easy to think that the "world's most well-loved" bit is sarcastic -- which is probably is -- but the APC slam at the end seems, almost, to indicate otherwise. Meaning that Pitchfork failed at sarcasming :(

3) They actually have a tagline that seems to indicate what they thought of the album. WTF?

Anyway, gonna read the review in a second. I'm predicting they gave it a 5.3/10.

---edit---

5.9. Damn. I was close.

Not a CD purchase, but since I'm saving up some money to outfit my parents' basement to be a spot to host jam sessions and do some rudimentary recording, I decided to splurge some dough on some early birthday gifts for myself.  (My birthday is May 8.)

I got a great deal on Ebay on a Tama Rockstar kit with bass drum, 2 mounted toms, and a floor tom.

I also ordered me a set of AA Meinl MCS cymbals (hi-hats, crash, ride.)  Meinl= the best cymbals no one knows about.  Forget Zildjian, Sabian, or Paiste.  Meinl is where it's at!  I want a set of their Safari hi-hats.

EDIT:  I also got a used Tama Swingstar snare drum; 7.25" deep, man.  That's almost 2 inches deeper than a standard snare and boy is it beefy.  I splurged some on the hardware too.

Next up is to buy a PA system.  Then I need to save up for a keyboard and keyboard amp.

The most important purchases to me at this point were/are the drumkit and the PA system.

I got Rage Against the Machine's 'Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium' DVD. This doesn't break my not buying a CD for month rule, because:

1) It's a DVD :P
2) I ended up getting it free.

I got a CD by Wishbone Ash today, named "Wishbone Four".  The only reason I got it is because I've heard they were an influence on Iron Maiden during their formative years.

It's garbage. :P

A friend of mine who's into a lot of prog recommended me 'Argus' by Wishbone Ash, remarking that it was the best album to come out in 1972. There's a lot of amazing albums that came out that year, so it's definitely something I'll be checking out, but I've also heard a lot of people say that Wishbone Four couldn't compare.

As for recent purchases, I bought X&Y by Coldplay for my mom for mother's day.
