My PS3 is out of commision atm, but I will try to get that repaired before MGS4. My friend showed me some info that Kojima will appearently be signing copies of the game during a midnight launch in NY.

While I am not big on autographs and all, I do like his stuff, and this is quite an oppertunity. I'll be trying go to.

Here's some proof

The only review I've heard about was from the UK PS3 mag and it said everything is wrapped up nicely.

So I'm not too worried.

There was another PS mag that gave it a 9.6/10 ,I saw it in a forum on another site, but can't find it now.

The install is kind of annoying, but it's not some game breaking feature like people bitch on and on about.

This is the kind of game I don`t need to read reviews on to know how it will turn out. I`d known MGS4 would be 10/10 material before it was even announced. It`s Hideo Kojima after all. All the games he has directed so far(Snatcher, Policenauts, MGS 1-3) have been amazing.

Also, good to know that it requires an HDD install. After all, that`s the whole point of having an HDD in every PS3 - so that developers could use this feature without being afraid that there are some people with HDD-less PS3(this is essentially the main issue with Xbox 360). Had every PS2 had an HDD, more games would have used mandatory installs than just Final Fantasy XI.

Alright, now you've gone into ass kiss 'they can do no wrong' territory. This is a game console, not a PC. Installs should be optional, not mandatory, especially since part of what I like about consoles is that I can just stick in a game whenever and play it.

Late Addition: However, I wish moreso that this wasn't a 'one or the other scenario' as what I said before kinda indicates. I'd love to do an installation for games I'm really into at the time, then uninstall if they fall in the backlog or if I simply need memory freed up for something like a huge demo.

90 minute cut scene... basically, a short movie fits into that.  Better be a goddamned god cut scene. =)

It's been debunked. *Not* true. Bogus.

It`s annoying when mandatory installs are used in the run-of-the-mill multiplatform garbage from Capcom, Ubisoft and EA(though I don`t play games by these companies). But it`s Kojima Productions we are talking about here. I doubt they`d force an install on us just because they suck at optimizng their games. There`s probably a good reason for MGS4 requiring an installation.

Oh, and since this hasn`t been posted yet, here`s five different TV ads for MGS4:

Artsy to the max! Very reminiscent of the European "Das ist Leben" PS3 commercials.

You don't play games by Capcom or Ubisoft?

And you're calling them garbage?

I predict a very interesting future for you.

A future of not having to play uninspired games, I presume. I used to buy almost all of Capcom`s releases up until a certain point. But since Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya, Atsushi Inaba and Yoshiki Okamoto all left Capcom(thanks to the commercially minded bastard Inafune), there`s nothing to look forward to anymore(for me at least). All Capcom makes now is Western oriented tripe like Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Bionic Commando and Resident Evil 5(co-op oriented single-player + Chris Redfield looking like a Gears of War character = no thanks).

Platinum Games is the new Capcom for me. It consists of former Capcom staff(the ones I mentioned above sans Okamoto) and their games(especially Bayonetta and Mad World) look a lot more interesting to me than anything from Capcom. I follow developers, not companies.

Anyway, that`s all a bit too off-topic. And that`s just my opinion anyway. I don`t see why you had to comment on it.

Admittedly they can be garbage from a technical point. Lost Planet is a pretty decent game, but the PS3 port looks like ass and requires the installation because they couldn't figure out how to optimize it. I'm pretty sure most games, including those by EA and Ubisoft, DON'T have large mandatory installations though.

You're right.

The install shouldn't be too big of an issue. It's an inconvenience, but it shouldn't make detract from the overall experience.

Instead of replaying all three games, I've decided to take the path of least resistance and do the Digital Comic instead of MGS1 and the Movie Disc instead of MGS3. MGS2 and Portable Ops I will replay, but I forgot about those two shorter bits (especially the digital comic, which I just finished up tonight). I might go to the signing as well, but it happens to be on the night of my senior prom and before my graduation. Decisions.

I didn't notice this when I last posted in this thread because it was made while I was typing mine, but...

While he said it was due to their attempts at being artistic that got them closed down, I really don't think he had anything to do with that. Seemed he was just stating a harsh truth about why they were shut down. Anyways two of those 'western' games were ones Capcom didn't actually want to make but he implored them to take a risk on, plus he really wants to make MML3 some. While he wasn't involved (as far as I know), Zack & Wiki is a wonderful standout game from Capcom, so I can't really hate them just because of the incident with Clover.

Lame they didn't include the original credits in the Wii version though.
