I hated the RB and LB for DMC4 when I played it, and much preferred L1 and R1. That was my major complaint.

Yeah, I can buy that.  I prefer the placement of the left analog stick on the 360 controller since it's a more natural position, but yeah... the L1 and R1 buttons are definitely better on the PS3 controller.

Personally I think the controller differences matter more to me for games that really need a D-Pad, like many 2D games and fighting titles. I hate the X360 D-Pad, the position is bad and it doesn't feel right, not to mention that it doesn't always register me pressing left unless I do it really hard.

But no, the LB/RB buttons aren't exactly great. I suppose it's balanced somewhat that the PS3 fucked up trying to turn L2/R2 into trigger buttons though.

This is coming from somebody who has never played DMC4 on the 360, but I'd imagine that it wouldn't be that great compared the the PS3 version (controller-wise), mind you I've never been a fan of Xbox controllers. The original Xbox controllers (original) were horrible. They were far too big and when they came out, I could barely play the damn console (I could probably now though). I didn't like the small Xbox controllers either. I like the 360 controller, but I'm just more fond of PlayStation controllers.

I don’t know, the Playstation controllers have always felt adequate, but nothing more. I’ve never liked the D-Pads on Playstation controllers.

I didn’t have any problems controlling DMC4 with the 360 controller. The sticks feel more comfortable that the PS3’s do and the controller feels almost perfect in weight and shape.

The 360 controller has always struck me as just a slightly more ergonomic version of the PS2 controller.

i guess it all depends on what u are used to
i was so used to comboing with the PS2 controller for DMC, that doing so on the 360 felt weird
same went for NG Sigma: reflex controls gets cumbersome when playing with a Sony controller...

Similarly, I may prefer the X360 controller for FPSes simply due to using it more with them, but I can easily enough adapt to the DualShock. Also, I admit the D-Pad on that is far from ideal. The Classic Controller has the best D-Pad of any modern controller, but the X360 one is a last resort while the DualShock one is generally acceptable.

Edit: I hate overlooking key words that completely change what I mean.

Definitely not a fan of either D-Pad on either console, but I will take the 360's over any PS controller's D-Pad merely because it has a centrepiece. My favourite D-Pad was on the US Saturn pad (yes, the clicky one), because it had a circular depression in the centre that made fighting games all that easier on the thumbs.

The rest of the controller was iffy at best, but that D-Pad rocked the house.

What we really need is a controller where instead of a D-Pad, it uses whatever the Neo Geo Pocket Color system used: some sort of weird D-Pad/Analog stick hybrid that was amazing.

oddly enough i always felt the exact opposite. the xbox controllers seem like slightly smaller version of the Dreamcast controllers or even a jaguar controller (for those who are as ancient as me). whereas the ps controller seems smaller and fits my hand easier. i cant even play my dds with the stylus because it makes my hand cramp every time. i had to buy a jumbo nerf stylus to play Zelda P.H.

i guess the shape and size of your hand will determine which controller you like best.

The battle system seems like it will be like Suikodens "Battle mode" but  next gen style. Lets hope it's enjoyable..
