You're just being cryptic again. It's like soap opera sex. Lots of boring dialogue and when they finally do go to bed, everything's dark and covered by blankets.

Next generation gaming makes me a sad panda.  If the industry keeps heading in this direction, I'm gonna have to take up a new hobby. :P

I fully second this statement.

I don't try to look at this as a downfall in general. When looking at Square-Enix back catalogue of RPG's, they have always had a mixed reception. When not looking at a title with the name of Kingdom Hearts, or Final Fantasy in it, many of their games have received a very mixed reception. Unlimited Saga was panned because of extremely basic graphics, and confusing gameplay. Front Mission 4 was panned because of outdated graphics and gameplay. Radiata Stories recieved average reviews.

What I'm trying to get at is, that SE has always had a catalogue of bad, good, and great games, and to immediately justify that they've failed this generation isn't fair. I think what they're trying to do in this generation is grab their developers into creating games that are no more cult hits, but epic and expansive, possibly to emulate their larger franchises and gain a wider audience (and not to say more $$$). But what comes out of this are epic-inspired yet cliche stories and characters.

I can honestly say that when playing Last Remnant, they had amazing ideas with the battle system, but used way too much inspiration from Final Fantasy (primarily FFXII). It almost feels like its borrowing the Final Fantasy XII universe, and plopping in Remnants and some guy named the Conquerer. As with the terrible utilization of Unreal Engine 3, it was blatantly obvious early on that their could be problems. During an press interview, the director mentioned the most difficult task with the game was this graphics engine because all the documentation was written in english. From this fact, it was evident that there would be shortcomings when the director himself would demerit his game before release.

I can look look past the flaws of this game, because their is some truly great ideas at work here. The problems may be huge, but some RPG fans will cherish what's hidden underneath a rather uninspiring and messy exterior.

This is exactly how I feel.

A game running on ~$400-$600 "next generation" hardware, with amazing processors, powerful video cards (which are so powerful that they *melt* inside your Xbox 360, AKA Red Ring of Death) etc. should not have, of all things, SLOWDOWN and TEXTURE ISSUES that significantly detract from the gameplay experience.  It's the dictionary definition of "irony."

For the Arcade model which has no hard drive, and thus, will make The Last Remnant run *even worse* since you can't install it?

This is true, but you can get a HDD for the 360 really cheap on Ebay.

Well, I'm playing it on a launch system with no online capabilities, thus no install. I did pre-order it before hearing about the serious technical issues the game has, but ya know.. I'd still have gotten it.

I agree it's ridiculous for the game to have shipped in this shape, but I would totally buy a Last Remnant 2.

The moral of the story is that even Square Enix can pull a Sega.

I have to buy, on eBay, a cheap HDD to supplement a gimped Xbox 360 so that I can play one game which will *still* have slowdown and texture issues, just to a lesser degree?  That sounds like a whole lot of effort.

I have a better idea - it's called a BETA TEST.  Not a single person played this thing and said "Um... it's crawling at 5 FPS and the texture pop-in looks hideous"?  Did Mr. Wada threaten them with their jobs if anyone spoke up?

It's unacceptable on the part of the developer, and you people who are going "Awwwwwww, it's not so bad, if you were a REAL RPG fan you would look for the good in it!" are the reason why Square Enix can get away with such laziness and still make a profit.

When people overlook flaws in a game, they're just deluding themselves to think that the game is better than it actually is.

Or they are just having fun...something you should always try to do when playing a videogame.

Christ, shut the fuck up and let people enjoy the game. It's pretty obvious that The Last Remnant is far from what makes a great game but when I do overlook the flaws I find something that I actually like. I don't think it's in any way a better game for that, in fact I think it's a pretty bad game. I just like the damn thing, and I'm pretty sure I'm not deluding myself there.

Shiguma: Yeah, I agree. There is absolutely no reason that a console game should require installation to be able to run faster than a slide show. If someone asked me about this, I would caution them about the game instead of recommending it, even to RPG fans and I especially wouldn't say that annoying line.

Personally, I look forward to more drama over how much The Last Remnant does/doesn't suck.  It's like NeoGAF version 2.0.
