For Wii!!!

http://kotaku.com/5020097/wii-castlevania-revealed-its-a-fighting-game

It's a 3D fighting game!!!!!

.....

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA................

I'm not really laughing.  It's a psychosomatic gag reflex when I think of Castlevania + 3D.

Oh, well, at least the new DS game looks hawt, since I get to play as Amy Lee.

I'm way less than excited for this... there are plenty of 3-D fighting franchises that are pretty good and a Castlevania one just doesn't appeal to me.

Ehhhhhh... this reminds me of Ehrgeiz.

Which is to say, this reminds me of the first time I wept for humanity.

Man, and I thought Star Wars: Masters of the Tera Kasi was a useless fighting game for a franchise that didn't need one.

I thought the adventure mode in Ehrgeiz was decent. The fighting game on the other hand....

That's just plain cookie.
I would much rather see a new 3D adventure Castlevania game that is actually good.

Maybe my enjoying Sonic R pretty much invalidates anything I say about spin-offs, but this could still be a fun game even if it's not half as great as either the best Castlevanias or the best fighters.

Alright, now that I have that out of the way I was told that IGA choose this basically because it was the only way to really make a motion heavy CV using a whip. Here's the quote of what he said in Nintendo Power:

Quote
When considering the Wii version of Castlevania, I felt that using the Wii Remote was a must for the game. The dilemma I encountered here was that past Castlevania games have all been action games where the user can play for hours at a time, but having to shake the controller for hours would be very tiring. Therefore, the solution I thought would best fit for the franchise and also for the Wii platform would be a fighting-type game with action elements, utilizing the Wii remote.

This seems like a really bad case of prioritizing a neat sounding gimmick over what the players truly want out of the series.

I wonder if this will be Castlevania's answer to Soul Calibur's only non-fighting-genre game.  Which did horribly.

Isn't it better that they mess this up rather than messing up a true Castlevania game?  At least we can still hope for a proper Castlevania after this.   /optimism
