Everyone liked to tout that, but it was basically just another Hironobu Sakaguchi game but with Akira Toriyama doing character designs. I think they even cited Nobuo Uematsu as part of the Dream Team when he only did a few songs due to Mitsuda getting an ulcer part way through the development process, if I'm remembering correctly anyway.

Can't the guys at Squeenix get the Dream Team back together for another one?
Didn't Microsoft do that? And didn't they make Blue Dragon?
No. Mistwalker is just Hironobu Sakaguchi and some of his lackeys.
The Dream Team was Akira Toriyama, Sakaguchi, the guy who was head of Enix, and Mitsuda.
As far as I know, most of the dream team works at Monolith Soft (not even close to 100% sure on this) and scattered about.

The Dream Team was Akira Toriyama, Sakaguchi,
Yuji Horii
, and Mitsuda.
As obnoxious as it's become to say this as of late, fixed. He only heads up the DQ series and wasn't in charge of Enix or anything. I guess he was basically their Hironobu Sakaguchi until Sakaguchi had to leave and Square and Enix merged.

And, uh, wasn't that basically what Chrono Trigger was? How much influence did Horii even have?

He wrote the basic scenario I believe. About just as much influence as Sakaguchi.

So who was behind the gameplay then -- battle system and skill progression, I mean? By scenario, I'm assuming you mean that he worked on the storyline with Kato?

The preview's up on 1up, confirms we'll get the PS1 FMVs.
Sounds like this could be SE's best port yet.

I'm glad to hear it. Thats what kept me playing thru the crapass PS port.
Hmmm, now that I have FFIV Advance, and this is coming out, what the hell should I do with my worthless copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles?
Haha... it seemed like such a smart buy at the time.
12 year old me sure was dumb.

You still got the best version of FFIV we've seen.
Edit: Well, of the original incarnation anyway.

I wonder if some of the things in the chrono games that are considered plotholes (as in, stuff that's not explained. Not blatant internal inconsistencies like Marle dissappearing in that 600 plot arc) were actually Kato and/or the other writers intentionally leaving stuff up to interpretation for the players.
I'm reading some translation of the Ultimania guide on gamefaqs and it's not... it's a bit akward, translation wise, but assuming it's close enough... Well, basically, with both games it's sort of annoying because there's stuff I THINK they're doing, storywise, but I'm not sure if I'm just reading too far into it or reading it wrong altogether.
I also get the impression that Kato's writing style involves writing the basic plot through, going back and looking for unintentional connections and meanings, and then writing those into it. Which seems like how the gurus of time work. *BALLS*.

That's got bugs that mess with the combat, and with the DS remake if you want it touched up it's better to go all the way rather than a little bit like FFIVA.

If by some chance you actually got the European version, it did fix the bug, and I hear it becomes less noticeable further on in the game. Plus it can go and turn the game ridiculously easy for a few bosses as you get a bunch of turns for each one of their's.
You've got no defense for getting that after the Remake was announced though.
