Everyone I've talked to seems to think pretty much the same, or at least not dislike the English VA. But, I dunno... maybe I was in a bad mood when I played the demo? Just wasn't clicking with me.

 No voice-over option though, right?

That would be a series first if there was, I believe.

Voice over option?  Not really sure what you mean.  But if you don't like the voices I know you can turn off skit voices and you could probably turn down scene voices to zero if you want (movies have subtitles by default as well)

Oh, sorry.

To be clear, I meant the option to choose between English or Japanese voice acting.

I actually like Yuri's deep english voice better than his Japanese counterpart.

I doubt there'd be enough room to have bilingual voices. I'm just assuming 360 games take up more space than a PS2 game ever did on a DVD.

I don't think I'd switch to JP voices even if they were available, I don't understand the language and they went through the trouble to voice everything in English this time. I'm really happy they put some effort into it.

If anyone has been searching for a retail copy of the premium version, they're up on Amazon for $69.79.

I passed up buying one like, 3 or 4 days ago and have been searching all over the place trying to find one that wasn't $140 or more.

Just a friendly heads up for anyone who cares!

EDIT: Play-Asia also has it in stock for  $79.90.

Going back to the voice acting, I am pleased they brought at least one (as far as I can tell) from a previous Tales game. I am 99% percent that the VA for Judith is the same one that played Grune in Tales of Legendia. The VA who played Yukari in persona 3 was also an excellent addition to the cast in my opinion.

Real Name: Can't remember D:
ToL        |    ToV
Grune       Judith

Real Name: Michelle was her first name I think.
P3                           |                            ToV
Yukari                                                  Rita

Apparently this game has an Indalecio (From SO2) type mechanic to it.
From a review:

"By completing a certain sidequest, an additional phase was added to the game's final boss fight, a phase [sic?] a full seventeen levels higher than the normal final boss. Once the sidequest was completed, there was no way to beat the game without going through this additional, extremely difficult boss."

Review doesn't mention what the sidequest is.  Interesting though... probably wasn't a great idea.  I could see a ton of people cashing in their DLC for that boss if it's easy to unknowingly unlock.

On a side note, apparently when you sleep at an inn voluntarily (not because you need to to make the story progress) you get an extra cutscene and may get something else out of it.  I just did it today and someone learned a new arte.  I wonder what else I missed besides some scenes?

I LOVE this game! To me it is the best in the series so far. I don't get into the behind the scenes of the games like you guys do, and don't know who the voice actors are, but the voice acting is really, really good. I'm 10 hours in and still can't figure out the Skill system for some reason, but either I'll figure it out or beat it without figuring it out. I think it's really cool that the skits are FINALLY voice acted in a U.S. Tales game.

From what little I've played so far, I really hope Estelle isn't the Luke of the game. Noble who has never seen the outside world. Thank God she isn't the main character and the game isn't about her or I would've just booted in TotA instead of this game.

The way the plot is setup, it wouldn't be too uncommon for people not to have seen the outside world.

They could have made the equipped skills stand out a tad more than the non-equipped skills to distinguish the two better, but if you play around in the skills menu you'll figure it out.  If a pop-up occurs when you open the skill menu on certain characters, it means some skill is already in-use on your equipment and you're wasting skill points having it also equipped in the skills menu.  I personally have only seen one "symbol" so far.  I haven't played around with the skills to see what I can get though, I just go for the most useful ones.

The battle system has a much better mechanics to it than Abyss...  Abyss' story still takes the entire cake though.
Especially in regards to villains
Code:
The Oracle Knights each had some sort of back story, while this time around we get Zagi; a goaless one-tracked assassin who fucked up the wrong kill and decided to stick with Yuri as a target.

Then we have the Hunting Blades who pull no better stops than "monsters are evil, they killed mine, and my whole guild's families, so lets kill them".  Granted, its good ambition to kill monsters, bu its jsut been heard seven times over in the same game.

Last character quip, Duke is too cute for his voice. =)

I'm working on like 5 of the 200 sidequests/scenes the game has and just got access to...
Code:

I like the guy that does Alexei's voice. He sounds like a voice actor or narrator from all the cartoons from the 70's. :P
