So I'm here dealing with my computer coming close to freezing when I try to write in notepad because of how old and shitty it is. I've been dreaming of a new system (hopefully 2 months from now I'll have one, I have it planned out and it is fucking sweet) and I'm just wondering what everyone else is using right now
My system:
AMD Athlon 1ghz CPU
1GB of the slowest shit ram you've ever seen
160gb Hard Drive
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive
Sound Blaster Live!
ATi 32MB PoS
...ya, it was fun 7 years ago when I bought it (I did upgrade the HD and doubled the RAM, but it was kickass back then).
My old smoldering system:
AMD Athlon X2 3800+
2GB DDR2
200GB + 250GB HD
16X DVD-RW
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
GeForce 6800GS AGP (with the pixel and vertex units unlocked)
It worked pretty decent, could play most stuff I threw at it although it was a built up over 3 years. It kinda caught fire like 5 months ago. Clean the dust out of your fans kids.
My hopeful future system
Intel E8400 3.0Ghz Dual Core
4GB DDR2
~1TB HD
18x DVD-RW
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS (maybe the new ASUS soundcard, I haven't decided yet)
ATI Radeon 4870
Probably a full tower case and a modular P/S as well.

That would be a pretty kick ass build. I just got a MacBook Pro for college and loaded WinXP on for gaming. It works well for about everything I've thrown at it. Crysis runs fairly well for the specs, as does World in Conflict. The only game I've had problems with so far has been Neverwinter Nights 2, but that supposedly runs like crap on even the best of machines.

My computer lags when I play Fable: TLC, so it's kinda bad. It might've been a good computer back in 2004, but my dad bought it in 2006. I used to just use the computer for downloading anime, but now that I don't do that anymore, all it needs to do is run the internet and I'll be fine....
The actual numbers and such:
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3700+
984 MHz
960 MB RAM
200+ GB HD

I totally forgot about my monitor, it's a Benq T903, it was the first 19" LCD monitor I seen for below $500. Needless to say I'm quite a few years old but it does the job well.

So my dad is a huge nut about having retarded PC hardware. The first rig here is my personal rig, the following two are his desktop and laptop.
3.0ghz P4 w/ HT
1GB RAM
256mb X700
Nothing particularly special, but it runs WoW just fine. Now my dad's computers are what I use as review rigs for hefty PC titles.
Desktop:
1.8ghz core 2 duo
2GB RAM
786mb 8800GTX
Fairly nice machine, and it's got a 21" monitor connected to it.
The last is his laptop - and while it's got retarded specs, take into consideration I had to carry this thing around E3 for several days because my ibook stopped working
2.4ghz core 2 duo
4GB RAM
SLI 512MB 8700GTs
17" screen, 1920x1080 resolution
Yeah, retarded. Weighs like 15 pounds, too.

I'm using a Micropoint Lunar M300 notebook. It's ancient (2003), but it's Lunar and it's blue and that makes it super special awesome.
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 - M 2.20GHz
768MB DRR RAM
30GB Harddrive
My other laptop (which I used up until one year ago) was way worse:
Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook C-series C4355
Celeron 700Mhz
64MB RAM
6GB Harddrive
Frankly, I don't need uber-specs to be happy. Maybe I'll buy a mini laptop when the Lunar decides to die. Those MSI Winds look fantastic.

4GB is becoming more and more common. Many recent models start with 2GB, but can be upgraded to 4GB.

Get the asus xonar. In vista, it gives you eax and it sounds better. The 3ghz core duo seems overkill when you can overclock a 2.4 ghz or something similar to that speed. 4870's are great. I have a 4850 and it can play any game i throw at it.
