Not sure if this is the right place but I was wondering if the Wii is 100% backwards compatible with the GameCube. The reason why I ask is because I'm thinking of selling the 'cube and keeping a controller otwo and just playing my gamecube games on the Wii when I want to.

Probably more like 99.9% as I've heard of a grand total of one issue, some error message popping up with a Mario golf game. Otherwise games run perfectly, neither the PS2 or 360 have better BC. Bonus for letting you use component cables without hunting on eBay for overpriced ones (and possibly a system to go with it) because Nintendo made a specialized chip stuck on the cable plug!

It's SUPPOSED to be backwards compatible with GCN games and peripherals, but honestly, I'd check and make sure that your games are compatible before sinking your GCN unit.

As of yet, I've had absolutely no experience with GCN games on the Wii, since I never invested in anything GCN.

And, no, I don't recommend trying to shove things up the back door (Kidding)!

While my cube collection is fairly miniscule (<20 games), everything I have works perfectly.  My Hori SNES-style controller works well, too.

I've got like 12 GCN games I think and they all worked when I tried them in my Wii. I'd say you're pretty safe getting rid of the Cube.

And if you need one back, they're only $50.

Been both a pretty active Wii and Cube owner. There's no reason to keep the Cube if you have a Wii, honestly. Everything is BC, 100%.

Only reasons I still have mine is because it was run over so I can't trade it in to GameStop (I know they couldn't possibly accept it) and I'm too fond of it to see if I can get a high price for it on eBay.

Wow.  It hadn't even occured to me to think about GCN/Wii compatibility, though I only own a few GCN games anyway.  This is great news, though, even more reason to pick up a Wii.  :D

ROFL! I remember that!

Anyway, I've played all of my GC games perfectly on the Wii. I still have my Cube, but only because I like to have a backup in case something goes awry.

I have had no problems with the Wii's BC, even though I still use my GameCube for the games (don't ask).

What's the problem with PS2's BC?

PS2 has slight screwups with a few games. FF5 for instance has glitched menu/status screen 50% of the time. Turning on Fast Loading and Texture smoothing will also cause some games to glitch up and/or crash. a faq on gamefaqs ( http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/915821/9781 if you're interisted) lists known compatability issues.

Really? I use my PS2 to play my PS1 games all the time, and they work fine! FFV worked alright on my PS2 too.

I think Eusis meant PS3, the BC of which is lacking now and will soon be nonexistant.
