Random Encounters are actually beneficial a lot of the time though. In some RPGs it keeps the game at the right difficulty. If there are creatures on screen I usually find myself getting underleveled because I avoid them.

Well that's yer own damn fault. ;P I'll still play games with random encounters, but if it's gonna have 'em I want an on/off feature, like the one the last two Wild Arms games included. Ya still hafta fight some battles before you reach the switch anyhow, and that'll tell you if you're underleveled.

THIS MAN SPEAKS THE TRUTH!!!! Lots of games have an item that prevent random encounters. They should at least have that much in every game.

It's harder to have such a profound impact with a single game these days.

Will Final Fantasy 13 redefine Japanese RPGs again? No. QFT. Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 have already done it.

No, FF13 will just be a benchmark to not announcing a game four years before it's ready for release.

This post wins the thread. We'll be seeing the game in 2010, for Christ's sake.

OMG, A GIRL! *screams and faints*
But thats a good point. Often innovative games are not the best and Final Fantasy games to often try to hard to be innovative which causes screw ups like FF8's draw system. I love FF8 but what the hell was that? I'm just hoping for a polished game which is to be expected from an FF game.
