And all because we don't discharge things on a regular basis.

A Menarche Party?

That wouldn't be 'special' for the kid. It'd be downright terrifying if you ask me.

okay, first time I went to the site I just looked at the front page and said "this is ridiculous."

But it gets SO much better if you explore a bit. Check out this lovely image from the photo gallery.

Yes, that's a new trend or something. There was an article about the newspaper about it this week. It's a combination of mom-daughter-bonding, new age crap and sex ed. I had no idea they did things like play the "Pin the Ovaries Game", though. WTF?

If I were a teenage girl, I'd be horrified about this as well.  At least menarche rituals in ancient and/or even current tribal societies actually make sense.  Having girls in mentrual huts makes sense since out in the sticks where there are no tampons, it's messy.  And usually there are nursemaids and such in the menstrual huts who give the girls special baths, massages, and stuff.  Given the physiological and psychological changes to the body, special baths and massages sound pretty f'n good.  To me, that all makes sense.

And menarche is a private matter.  I don't know too many girls who wish to announce and broadcast that they've had their first period.  I'll bet most are reluctant to even go to mom when it happens.  The whole idea of a menarche party just feels like public humiliation to me.

What the hell? :P Seriously? That WOULD be terrifying. And telling your mom isn't all that bad when you get your first period because you don't know WTF to do, but.. a party? I was good enough by comforting myself by eating a bag of M&Ms when I got my first period, thanks. :P
