Chrono Trigger IS the shortest of all the games you've listed, if that's a concern. About 15-20 hours to do everything.

You can even do it in 10 to 15 hours if you really know what you're doing.

Actually you could probably beat DQIV in a similar amount of time if you don't screw around in the casino and ignore Chapter 6. DQV's not terribly long either, while the others are longer. None of them are exactly 60 hour epics though.

Do you mean the games on the list or the other DQs? Because I'm pretty sure 6-8 are each about 130 hours a piece, if you rush.

DQs IV and V are pretty short (when you're not screwing around in the Casino or overleveling).

As for my recommendation it's a toss up between DQ V and Chrono Trigger. Both have excellent stories and are fairly easy to breeze through if you know what you are doing. And though Chrono Trigger does have less of a learning curve than DQs IV or V, there's a lot more to do in DQ V than in CT (IV is about the same as CT though).

Play EO1.  I have no comment about the DQ games, but the FF4 remake is universally worse than the original version, FF3 is a terrible game, and CT is boring IMO.

EO1, on the other hand, has epic DEER FIGHTS.

I've never played Etrian Odyssey.  I heard it is a good game, but I never got around to getting it.  Same with the sequal.  I don't mind the first person dungeon aspect, but when I read some reviews about the game not focusing a whole lot on the story, it kind of influenced my decision on not rushing out to get it.  But if I just happen to see it in a store pretty cheap I'll try it out.

As for Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger, I think they are good.  But everyone is different and that's good too.  But I haven't played the remade version of Final Fantasy IV on the DS, yet.  So thanks for the heads up on it.  But I think it should be okay.

I am now the proud owner of Chrono Trigger, thanks to all who gave their opinion about the games in my list.

Are there any games that you actually like? I can't remember a single post from you saying something positive about any game whatsoever.

I said something positive about EO in the exact post you quoted.  I also heavily implied that the original FF4 is good, which it is.

I'm always talking about games that I like, it's just that most of the discussions on this board at the moment are about games that I don't.  And even then, I generally bring up a whole laundry list of games that I do like to compare why I think the current discussed game is bad.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. That's the only game I can remember because it stands out.

Yet the DS version is somehow "universally" worse.
