Does Catherine count as an SMT game? Will RPGFan cover it? It is an adventure game, so it seems like something we'd cover, but I guess we're not covering LA Noire...

So what excites you most about Catherine? For me, it's how maturely they deal with mature themes. Sex isn't orgasmatastic like in most games, it's something adults do. And the gameplay is cool too I guess.

Does Catherine count as an SMT game?

Absolutely not.  Atlus makes games besides SMT, you know.

I doubt it.

It's not an adventure game.  It's an action/puzzler with a story.  How is it an adventure game?

But I thought it was part of the Persona stuff...

Otherwise, I've been grossly misinformed about it.

Vincent's just a cameo for fun. Atlus have said there's no ties to the Persona universe. Besides, Catherine takes place in Chicago.

It's not SMT, Atlus loves cameos.

It's also a horror action/puzzle/platformer, not in our realm of coverage.

Even though I do think Catherine might be my favorite game this year I will admit that I am attracted to the characters especially Katherine and Vincent. They aren't ridiculous looking either.

Catherine on the other hand..nom nom nom

I'm hoping we  see the Catherine characters in more SMT games later on.Catherine should be seducing the P5 protagonist.

Catherine should be seducing the P5 protagonist.

That's a terrible idea.

For better or for worse, we haven't seen the last of Cathy(either as a brand or character).

It was that successful. Index considers it another key Atlus brand now.

Hey everyone, new here. As you can tell from my username, I'm a suikoden fan. Anyway, I am finally playing my first Megami Tensei game. I'm about halfway through Nocturne. Having trouble with the oni bosses in the cave, but guess I just need to level up and get better skills for dealing with them.
I actually am getting into this series because of my girlfriend who is in the middle of persona 3 right now. I find this whole series pretty fascinating, so I think I will be playing quite a few of these in a row. Anyone have a suggestion on what game I should try next?

Digital Devil Saga has a lot more in common with Nocturne than Persona 3, so I say go with that. That's what I did. Digital Devil Saga is just as good as Nocturne. More story driven though.

If you want advice beating the three Oni's (Four, actually) here you go.

Quote
Kin-ki (Kinky?): He is weak to Fire, Elec, Ice and Force magic, though it won't actually tell you it's a weakness - so no free press turn. He uses a lot of physical attacks, so having high defence helps.

Fuu-ki (Fucky?): He uses a lot of Force magic, so equiping a magatama that nulls Force will help a lot. He is weak to Elec type magic, and absorbs force.

Sui-Ki (Sucky?): He is weak to Fire magic, absorbs Ice and is strong against everything else. Just hit him with fire.

Finally,

Ongyo-Ki: ONLY FIGHT HIM WHEN KAGATUSHI IS AT FULL. This is because he has a move that makes him invisible and hard to hit, but if Kagatuhi is full then you can see his shadow under the spot he is at. Stat-lowering moves help with this guy. He has no strengths or weaknesses.
