Seems like JRPG fans get mad when changes are mad, yet get mad at the lack of innovation in JRPGs.

Actually that's the gaming press and people who gross generalisations about why they don't play JRPGs.

If you look at the trailer, he seems like the Law one; the other guy Chaos. Vibe I get, anyway.

Was thinking the same thing actually.

And the player has a bunch of distracting, colorful icons on the side. Why?!

The main character looks like a mix between the protagonist of P4 with Korra now that I notice.

The trailer with subs. :D

Having the subs there got so much more hyped for this game. The story seems really good. I'm not worried about the quality of this game at all.

Wait, did I read that the main character is a girl? I thought the character looked like the typical JRPG male! Couldn't they have made the character more Mitsuru-like? :p

The main character is a male.

In fact, the humans shown thus far comprise your typical sentai team loadout. The guy with the white rider scarf is the leader (aka the MC), you've got the lawful and chaotic dudes, the support guy (i.e. the science guy or the techie), and oddly enough the red (are we sure that's not some shade of pink?) scarfed lady is the team's token chick.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

Watch below for some exploring and fighting with our female protagonist, with a backdrop of music befit an SMT title.

I was looking for a female protagonist. Not female party member....

I'm not sure where you're quoting that from, but the protagonist is a male. Sorry if that disappoints you.

Sorry, I should have said - I was quoting from RPGfan! http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2012/1909.html

Oh well, I am still intrigued but it would have been cool to have a set female protagonist :)

For a guy who has played none of them (and I'm hoping someone hasn't already asked this), which is the best one to start out with IYO?

I would say Nocturne personally.

You might find Persona 3/4 a little easier both gameplay wise and to get into though.

I would personally go against Lard's recommendation and go on the opposite way of Nocturne. It is good but I think it is bit too frustrating. It's one of those games every encounter can kill you and most bosses certainly will kill you.
Aside from that I think Nocturne has a lot of good things in its favor, but for someone starting in the series I'd recommend P3/P4 or even Digital Devil Saga (which I have only played a little but seemed much easier to get into than Nocturne).
