It's a spinoff of the original Devil Summoner.  Pretty much if you've played like Persona 2, you should know generally what to expect.  Two rows of characters and 90s era RPG combat.

It's considered a sequel, not a spinoff. Devil Summoner was a spin-off of SMT, which then became its own series.

Soul Hackers is DS 2, the Raidou games are 3 & 4.

Did not expect this.

Listing says PSP and PS3.  That's kind of interesting, as far as I know there was never a PS3 version of the game.  Could this be the first US release of a PSP remaster?

Edit: Derp, forgot the obvious.  Might just be a PS1 Classic, meaning none of the enhancements of the PSP version...

Most people are saying it's a PSone Classic, as there are legal issues that prevent the full remake from being released.

Atlus continues cockblocking EP.

Well... at least we are getting that dating sim with Keiji Inafune's niece. :(

That's Aksys and not Atlus.  But still... this kinda sucks.  I'd like to play both of the P2 remakes back to back eventually.

What kind of issues?

I never heard about these "legal issues". What could they possibly be?

Laziness probably.

Considering they are two very similar games, I highly doubt there are issues allowing one game but preventing the other.
I avoid online multiplayer because my brain still works.

Pretty sure that's not it. I've heard stuff about it for quite a while that there are legal issues involved. I don't follow it closely enough to pinpoint exactly what those are, unfortunately.

Also, laziness? Seriously? How many games have these guys released that probably sold like garbage, yet they continue to release them? I'm pretty sure retranslating Persona was a signficant investment for what I'd consider an inferior game. Why would they suddenly decide, after releasing almost everything they produce locally, that they're too lazy to do this one?

Capcom can't release Megaman Legends on the PSN for legal reasons as well. Is that laziness? Nope. It's because they don't have the rights to digitally reproduce the voice work, so they'd have to re-record the entire game, and then you'd have people bitching about how it's not true to the original and they'd probably not make that much money on it to make it worth it.

TL;DR Atlus deserves a little more credit than I think you're giving them.

1. What I saw said (you can look in the thread for this) was that that they "couldn't", rather than they "didn't", so that implies there's some sort of problem whether it's man power (I think this COULD be most likely, everyone got shuffled elsewhere right after development ended so there's no one to get it put over), some part of the code was insurmountable for translation which really seems weird after IS, or there's some issue with another company blocking release. In any case, laziness implies a conscious decision on Atlus USA's part, when it's apparently out of their hands.

2. As much as I'd want the PSP version instead, I'm glad that the second part's made available again period, even with some of the inconsistent names. It's still a really good translation, even if it kind of had to juggle between consistency with the crap translation and being more authentic this time.

After the region locking debacle and their deliberate shafting of consumers......no.

Considering EP is my favorite traditional RPG ever, I doubt anyone's more sad than me, but the news that it wasn't sales based is shocking to me. It leaves only coding issues, which is kind of sad. Just hire some programmers like Working Designs did and call it a day. (I guess that's not very viable or profitable, sadly.)

At least we're getting the PS1 version on PS1, far FAR better than nothing.

Useless to me since I own a hard copy, but I'm happy for everyone else.
