Well,

there's a difference between getting a woman to voice a 10 year old boy, and getting her to voice a "boy" in "his" mid to late teens. It can be legitimately confusing to hear this voice only for everyone to refer to her with male pronouns anyway.

My P5 checklist includes: Meguro on music. A darker storyline. And leave P4 characters out. I've had enough of friendship forever rainbows in my Persona.
I agree. I'm not vehemently anti-P4 and while I do like it, a darker storyline (and I don't necessarily means teenage angst, unless it's cleverly implemented) just gives many more possibilities for the narrative in a game that, after all, is about the characters' psychology. I could understand why people would want to keep the light atmosphere if Persona became defined by the social link aspect of the story, ie the slice of life, but I really hope the series doesn't regress into that hole. However, considering the success of the last two Persona entries, the financial pressure upon the development team is probably so great that I doubt they will deviate too much from those at this point.
Can't they just whore out the P4 to oblivion with different side games and ports and porn comics and fund all the other projects from that revenue? Would be nice.

P3 was great, but P4 didn't do anything for me outside of the soundtrack to be honest. Hopefully P5 has more of a darker tone.

I had a feeling just from the voice alone, and when her gender was really revealed I was like 'yeah, I knew it.' I still liked the twist though.
Yeah, as much as I love both P3 and 4, I'd rather P5 be darker like 3.. or even darker. But I always end preferring stuff like mainline SMTs anyway.

So on the topic of Naoto...
Code:
I was among the people who predicted Naoto's gender before the game came out due to her three or so seconds appearance in the opening video(for the original P4....not sure if it is P4G) where a female is walking in front of a TV screen with Naoto on it. Whether that was actually supposed to be a hint to her gender or just a giant coincidence is anyone's guess.

Am I the only person who doesn't find P3 to be dark? I mean originally I didn't want to play it originally because it looked like it was going to be so dark(which is a style that I don't care for), but then I was out of games and a freind kept recomending it so I tried it. And it turned out to not be dark. The storyline itself has a bit of a nihilistic tinge to it, but that is overcome by the power of freindship, so I can hardly say the story itself is dark and while the atmosphere has some dark trappings to it, they don't actually create a dark atmosphere but more or a....adolescent imitation of a dark atmosphere that misses the point. I think I was uneasy with the setting for like five seconds before I stopped caring about the copious amounts of blood in the midnight hour.
I personally would rather have something more akin to P4 because that was at least being honest about what it was. >.>

I think P3 definitely had darker moments than P4. Chidori probably being the most obvious.

Honest? If you mean by P4 feeling more like an anime series, then yeah.

I'm pretty much over the whole 'this has to be darker' thing. I love the characters and story in P4, and I'm sure I'll love P3 as well. They can go any way with P5 and I'll be down with it.

I don't really mind either way, but I hope the story has more substance than 3. I liked the story in 3, there just wasn't all that much of it.

I'm still trying to decide which version of P3 to play. I have the original PS2 version and the PSP version, but I don't want to miss out on "the Answer" stuff. Hmm.

You can get FES for $10 PSN. The small additions like taking your dog for a walk are great, but The Answer is brutal. Some neat story stuff, but it's just an ugly grind. I' e only played it for two hours and I'm not sure I'll ever finish.

'The Answer' chapter was made because of some of the negative reception of the ending of the main game (or 'The Journey' as it called in P3 FES).
The extra chapter complements and expands the story more, but without it P3 wouldn't lose anything really. At this point it seems better going for P3P but it all depends in what you want.
However, If you can play P3 FES and later Portable (as a Female MC) then do that.

I finished FES, but only because I got fed up of the grind and bullrushed to the last boss.
I barely won since I was really underleveled.
