Number Two's eyes narrowed and became what are known in the Shouting and Killing People trade as cold slits, the idea presumable being to give your opponent the impression that you have lost your glasses or are having difficulty keeping awake. Why this is frightening is an, as yet, unresolved problem.

So anyway, I got the dreaded E74 error on my 360. For those not in the know, it's kind of like the RRoD, but isn't covered by Microsoft's extended 3 year warranty. If I want to fix it I'd have to cough up $100.

So fuck that shit, I'm gonna cause an RRoD and have them foot the bill. So, ideas that don't include blowing up my 360, sticking it in a microwave, or anything similar that will make it obvious I tried to fuck with it are welcome.

"I felt a nameless dread. Well, there probably is a long German name for it, like Geschpooklichkeit or something, but I don't speak German. Anyway, it's a dread that nobody knows the name for, like those little square plastic gizmos that close your bread bags. I don't know the name for those either."

If I recall correctly, Red Rings are caused by the system overheating to the point that it renders some piece of hardware unusable. So just leave it on, preferably in a small, closed space, until it Red Rings.

I've heard of people putting towels on their 360 and leaving it on for a long time until it overheats.

This. However, you might be able to lie and get away with it, I even saw someone say that Customer Service told him to forget about the conversation they just had, call back, and say it RRoD'd.

Heat the towel up in the dryer first, then wrap the XBox with it, turn it on and leave it crammed in a drawer.

That will royally fuck it up.

Yeah, what Losfer said.  I've always heard the best way to do it is to warm up towels and then wrap them around the system.  The E74 error seems like a bullshit way to get around the RRoD issue.

It sounds to me like a whole other problem that just took longer to crop up. The 360 really is the worst made console yet.

What is it...something like 40% of their consoles fail?

I think it's closer to 30%, but that's still way too high.

Yeah exactly...about 29% too high.

I'd say 29.9%, if not higher. One out of a hundred consoles failing is still kind of crappy, just thinking about applying that to the sales figures given out.

I was under the impression the 30% is only in regards to the first generation model.

...That still doesn't stop me from being paranoid about having a Falcon instead of a Jasper. :P
