A lot of the problem with Turtles in Time I think was that the gameplay was nothing special, so it depended more on "Hey kids, it's one of your favorite cartoons as a decent arcade game!". Said decent gameplay has aged poorly though, and the nostalgic effect is fucked up by the stylistic changes, whereas the original TMNT arcade game isn't a bad recommendation because the furthest they got in screwing that was up was the borders and the character selection.

You know what? The fact that they actually pulled this "which character will be in it" stunt might actually mean that they learned their lesson. I'm actually starting to believe that this is indeed a remake of the very first game. Though that would be great, something brand new with the same gameplay would be even better.

I started with the 16 bit Amiga. Classic games I remember playing are James Pond, The Adams Family, Zoo, Rainbow Islands and I think Earthworm Jim as well.

James Pond looks good and plays just as well on the DS now, as it did on the Amiga many moons ago. But the same can't be said for Rainbow Islands.

It's not really a remake, but Gradius Rebirth is the shit.

Don't forget Contra Rebirth.

The Castlevania Adventure Rebirth on the other hand is more meh given the lazy mishmash of spritework and cribbing from several of the 16-bit era Castlevania games. Then again, its a hell of a lot better than the original version.

Edit: Does the GBA count as 16-bit given the GBA's level of technology and not the period of time it existed? If so then this may eventually be relevant given the fact that it was probably the single best series to grace the GBA (outside of Fire Emblem).

Actually, it's a 32-bit system, but it's capabilities are far closer to the SNES so it is arguably similar enough.

Also, Castlevania Adventure Rebirth is fine for what it is, though those faults certainly are true. Plus they actually drew a new fucking skeleton for once, or at least didn't recycle the Rondo one yet again.
