Right, I'm looking into getting a laptop for my sister. She won't use it for anything other than looking up things on the internet; she has a big computer that can do the rest. She'd prefer one of those little one inch thick things. You guys have any recommendations that don't have the word Apple in them? :P

Netbooks. They are cheap, and small, and don't have the word apple on them. I just bought one and honestly it is great because I pretty much do exactly the same thing. ASUS and Acer are the most popular brands and you can get something that is pretty good for about $350 depending on how big/type a hard drive she'd want and so forth. Check out newegg's netbook section. They have some good deals from time to time and they offer free shipping on a bunch of them.

That is a great site if you just want to get a slew of info on the diff netbooks on the markets. You could check out his review section to see how they stack up.

I bought this two days Ago:
Burgundy Laptop
Right now it's the most heavenly thing I've ever been on.
But enough about myself.
Honestly, just get her a netbook. Check them out on the link in the post above.

Samsung's netbook (the NC10) is excellent. Both the screen and keyboard have a decent size (so no horizontal scrolling and tidalwaves of typos) and it doesn't have any heating problems like many other netbooks. The MSI Wind is also recommended, since that's basically the system all other
good
mini notebooks were based on.

I got an NC10 recently. LOVE it. It's totally awesome.

The only thing I don't like about it is the tiny touchpad, the one on the Wind is larger. Keyboards are almost the same (and they're both pratically fullsized). I prefer the one on the Wind, because of the larger backspace key and the fullsized arrow keys. The NC10 has a larger right shift key.
Other differences:
-NC10 has longer battery life, 6,5 hours versus 5,5 hours, IIRC
-NC10 looks fancier, because of the chrome
-Wind is a better name than NC10
, because it's a great set-up for lame Fire Emblem jokes.

I've been looking into the eee pcs - in particular the 1005ha which is from the new Seashell line but allows for battery replacement and memory upgrading, unlike the 1008ha. That should be coming to the states pretty soon. If you need to get it right away, the 1000he should work well.
