....JUST STAY AWAY FROM MYSTIC QUEST.

It's fun for what it is, that game gets entirely too much hatred.

I agree, though I could be saying that mostly because it was my first RPG ever. It has an endearing feel every time I play it. :P

It's not really any worse than any other very traditional SNES RPG.

Plus it does have a fairly decent soundtrack for what it's worth.

Well mystic quest is a good game plus it's one of the few games where the max level is'nt 99 it's actually 42 since i actually took my sweet time to replay dungeons after i beat them and killing all the enemies.

Anyway it's pretty good if you have the patience especially with the later dungeons starting with the Ice Pyramid when there's tons of monsters.

The ice pyramid isn't a later dungeon. It's like, the third dungeon.

Shadowrun was mentioned earlier, but I'll double up here to make sure that no one missed it. Please get Shadowrun. It's got a cool setting, story, graphics, and the game play is above average too. A unique game that gets looked over a lot.

Another interesting one is a Enix game called Robotrek. It's kind of cutesy, but you control a party of robots and can swap out all their parts and combine them to make new parts. Very customizable.

Also, am I the only person who liked Lagoon?

Actually, I beat it about 4 years ago (when I was in college). It hasn't aged that badly. It's one of those games that is simple and fun, and sucks you in because it's so easy (like a lot of Gameboy RPGs). Now the SNES port of Drakkhen on the other hand...

Haven't we also forgotten about a certain series of games Soulblazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma.

I loved Illusion of Gaia to bits despite its linearity. This RPG introduced me the ancient wonders of the world. :P

I agree. I liked Mystic Quest even though I had played much more in-depth and fleshed out RPG's by the time it came out. Excellent soundtrack, and it was one of, if not THE first RPG I played where you could see enemies on the screen and it wasn't random encounters. I thought Squaresoft was genius when they released a game. They took a big chance, but it plaid off. Developing and producing an RPG SOLELY for the purpose to get non-RPG players into the genre. Cool.

Did it really? It didn't boost the number of people playing like Final Fantasy VII did, and has one of the worst reputations in the series.

I'm okay with something like IoG being linear because the dungeons are fairly well designed and its action oriented. Linear, turn-based grindfests with strictly obstacleish dungeons DON'T make me happy.
