This had better appear on the PC. I don't care what other consoles it hits, but without a PC release, its actual lifespan as a viable online game will be severely limited. The whole "built around the PS2" crap FFXI has to deal with has limited it so greatly, and this isn't going to be any different considering how technology marches on.

I don't see why. Just because there's MMO's doesn't invalidate their contributions to the franchise. There's no rule that says FF has to be an offline adventure. In fact, the only rule FF does carry around is the need for an epic scope, and FFXI did provide that.

One of the biggest concerns among the FFXI community has always been the bots- they've never been dealt with because they can't be detected server-side. Of course if they were smart they would've designed the game so that either botting doesn't offer any advantages anymore, or you can't do at all.

Can't really be called hype building if we learned that it's an MMO and it's numbered in the same breath, if they said 2 months ago that they'd be revealing FFXIV at E3, then it'd be hype building. =P

There's 0 doubt that this is indeed, a sequel to FFXI. Mithra, Tarutaru, Galka, Elvaan...all there. Looks like FFXI really is going to be phased out.

Thank God. Still, I hope they don't build it strictly around the PS3 architecture. I can only see that being a huge bullet through the foot for the game. I dunno how to make games 'scaleable' in a sense where a game can keep expanding but still be viable on a low-end console (I think EVE does this somehow), but Square-Enix should probably look into that so as to keep this game viable in the long run.

Beyond that? I'd really like to see some actual gameplay.
