Holy mother of DOG! That is badass. I never much liked The Gathering, but more because of the plodding music, but Anneke wasn't responsible for that. Devin will make a fucking masterpiece with her voice. Not only is he one hell of a musician, but he's one of the greatest producers I know as well.

I did not have anything intelligent or profound to say, so I just said something stupid.
I tell ya, the world would f'n implode if Devin Townsend and Mike Patton ever did a project together.

Very nice. I was expecting to see Arjen Lucassen on the list, guess he's returning the favor. This sure has potential.

God, prog is so fucking inbred... I LOVE IT!
You got Pain of Salvation and Flower Kings hooking up, Devy and Anneke, Arjen and various Dream Theater members with just about everybody. Fuck, even Jon Anderson's getting into it, singing with Bela Fleck and Glass Hammer.
Of course, noone beats Tony Levin for amount of prog bands played with: King Crimson, Yes, Peter Gabrial, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater (liquid tension), among others.

Tony Levin's the MAN! And since there are fewer bassists running around than guitarists, I'm not surprised at all that bassists like him have multiple gigs. If you look at guys like Chris Wyse and James LoMenzo, their resumes read like who's who of hard rock/metal. I remember at one point, Levin had MusicMan craft him a 3-string Stingray tuned EAD in the 1990s, when the trend in prog bassery was to use 5 or 6 string basses. I thought that was pretty cool.

LOL, yeah, wasn't that so that he could play with funk fingers more precisely? In any case, after that he switched to 8 and 12 string Chapmans and became the world's most famous chapman stick player.
Tony's a beast. Any time Dream Theater try to cover an LTE song (and I've seen them do it live a few times), something's missing. Myung's a technical master, but he just doesn't have the funk.
BTW: Are you familliar with Sean Malone's Gordian Knot work, by any chance? I'm guessing you are. Two of my favorite albums.

I know who Shawn Malone is. He blew me away on Cynic's "Focus" album. Colin Marston of Behold... The Arctopus and Dysrhythmia is a chopsy beast on both bass and Warr Guitar (basically, another Chapman Stick.) I've always wanted to try a stick, but I'm a lousy tapper.
Ahh, the funk fingers. And I recall in an interview Levin did with Bass Player he mentioned the "super wonder nappy bass" where he used a diaper as a string mute or something and diapers are called nappies in England.

Warrs are some of the most beautiful looking instruments in the world, though it seems kinda useless to put a body on a tapping instrument, playing it must be kinda clumsy.
Anyway, Dinc, do check out Gordian Knot... the music is wonderous and the lineup reads like a who's who of modern bass players, especially tappers. It's surprisingly musical, considering that many super groups go for the "wow flash bang" appeal which makes for pyrotechnics with absolutely no listenability. The first album is probably a little stronger overall, but Emergent has my one of my favorite instrumental tunes ever, "Mutterspratch". Some wonderful nylon guitar work appears on both albums, btw.
