Iwata also says Nintendo isn't 'making a next generation console'.

Well, that's pretty much what they've been saying all way long. And, for once, it seems like an exec isn't talking bullshit :P

I like the idea of automatically downloaded demoes/trailers/updates/stuff, as long as I remain some controll of what will be downloaded, as long as I have control over what and when it will download.

Iwata also touches upon something that I always throw in the face of Wii haters who say that the controller is too odd. That's the same thing that people said just before, and just after, the DS was released. "The DS is too graphically weak compared to the PSP, the touchscreen functionality is just a gimmick that will never catch on, etc". Well, take a look at the handheld market and see what console is currently leading it. Yeah, it's DS, with tons of interesting and innovative games, while the PSP is trailing behind and populated with ports and remakes.

Now, I don't expect to see the same thing happening with home consoles. I don't think the Wii will be the DS of the home, but I do think that developers will take the console to heart and develop a bunch of cool games that could never be possible on the other consoles.

Well, you could make an argument for 'not a next-gen system' to be something stupid said... But not only is that pretty minor, espicially compared to the crap Phil Harrison and Peter Moore have said, but it's also pretty much old news... And has more truth to it to boot.

But, I agree with you on the DS/Wii. Do note that general opinion is /much/ more positive about the Wii, thanks likely due to the DS, while the DS many of us were weary of, and initially unimpressed with. Wii looks like it won't even have the 'initially unimpressive' part... Or will just make up for it with old games. :P
