It looses the top-down perspective and is now 3d. Could this be a match for Zelda or is is it just another FFCC type 3d game?

I haven't watched this fully but I'm pretty sure most of the game will still be top down, it's been 3D from the start, and the backpedaling to a turn based system means it'll be like neither of those games.

No random battles and paperdolling sounds loverly. But I'm not sure how I feel about the supposed online component?

Dragon Quest has never really been a story-heavy series so I don't see any problem with making it online. Merging offline with online playing tends to have bad effects on the story (PSO), but personally, I don't see much of a story to ruin with the Dragon Quest series. =P

This game is not an action RPG anymore?

I just hope they put HUGE Production values in the game and dont skimp out because its a handheld title.

It's a Dragon Quest game. There will probably be riots in Japan if the game isn't top notch.

I meant that less in a "Oh no what about the story?" and more in a "I hate multiplayer generally" sense.

Bad experiences with counterstrike when i was younger.

I hear the online play was scrapped in the end. Just as well, I don't think a cooperative turn based RPG is what I want to play with people across the country anyway.

From the looks of it, you're allowed to split up and tackle different parts of the dungeon at a time in online play, and you can join together into a party to beat the stronger enemies- I think that has a bit of potential, but it does leave some room for one guy to dick around if you end up having like, 4 switches you need to press at the same time or something. =P

Looks great.  Im playing IV right now, and I miss some of the features from 8, and it looks like IX has em all in spades.  And yeah, I mean after the outrage over the action rpg stuff, I think they are making sure this game meets the quality standards.  But from what I saw, I dont see how it doesnt.  It looks fantastic imo, and I love the customization options.  Honestly I am stoked.

I just hope they port it to a console.  My wife and I like to play through Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games together - unless the online play is still in there and we can work together, I'll be a bit upset =_(
