Regardless of what people thought of him, he was an icon and a musical revolutionary.  Thriller is still one of the greatest albums ever created.  I <3 old Motown and the Jackson Five.  RIP Michael.

Farrah Fawcett kicked the bucket today too.  For people who came of age in the 1970s, she was *the* it girl and an icon in her own regard.

Yeah, this was surprising.  Although his lifestyle was questionable at best, he was pretty good at singing (at least prior to the whole save the earth deal).

Very sad.

My parents loved Michael Jackson.  My aunt called my mom to ask if she had heard.

I don't like that he didn't get a chance to redeem himself with his 3 year tour or whatever, and the last big news was that stupid molestation shit.

He'll only be as dead as Elvis, right..

So the big question...was it suicide? That's what I want to know. He did go bankrupt, and he would never rid himself of the scandals (and, if the scandals are true, the guilt).

I just found out about a half an hour ago. Never thought I'd see the day. I was a big fan when I was a kid. Now we'll see all the media praise as opposed to their usual mocking.

Is there a bigger popular culture figure who could have died worldwide?

If so, name him/her,

JP

Lossie poo- if I'm not mistaken, Ronald McDonald is more recognizable worldwide than Mickey Mouse, who used to be the most recognizable figure worldwide.

But since Mickey and Ronald are more trademarks than people, they won't die till people stop eating McDonalds and watching Disney.
