There was actually an interesting TED presentation where a guy did the research and found out we've actually killed fewer people in war in the 20th century, both numerically and percentage-wise than we did in previous centuries, and that marked a trend of fewer people dying in wars over time.

That and we live longer, don't have to work as hard (physically), and have developed social institutions that allow us to do a lot of good for more people, and I'd say humanity is improving rather than being debased. Everyone thinks that life/values/personal character was so much better in the past, and in some respects it might have been, but overall, yeah, I'm hopeful.

Now that *WE'RE* doing so well, we need to take better care of the environment (reduce our carbon footprint and such), and reduce our dependence on foreign labor and resources. Start by killing (corn) farm subsidies and NAFTA.

I like to simply think of it like this.

There are a shitton more people in the world today. hence there is a shitton more stuff going on and happening as a result.  Used to be nature could wipe out a few hundred thousand, or we would constantly be at war.  Nowadays, with the healthcare, the lower amount of wars, etc, that doesnt happen.

But to keep on topic...again..yeah would totally not be ok with it, not because of the age thing (ok well sorta, but if my daughter was like, 13, and whatever, and it was safe, then I guess id be disspointed but not pissed, I think alot of the whole young kids arnt smart enough is kinda stupid, cause they dont seem any less intelligent than alot of the dumbass 18 year olds in this country) but just cause err..no need to start so young, enjoy being a kid, adulthood comes faster than you think.

I don't know what it is, but young girls these days do seem to be growing up way too fast.  Just this afternoon on my bike ride, a girl who was probably 12 or so (she looked middle school) holla'd at me in a flirty way while she was walking down the sidewalk with her friend.  A similar thing happened to me last year with a 12 year old holla'ing to me out a van window.  On the one hand it was a teensy bit flattering because I never got that kind of attention from girls when I was in middle school, but during the rest of my bike ride I was creeped out and kept thinking, "shouldn't these girls be flirting with boys their own age?" 

This just happened to me last week @ one of the parks where I work.
