I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this yet.
As you probably know it's being hyped as the best thing ever.

This thing has been inside Cameron's head for 15 years. Hits theaters on December 18.
Personally I think the hype will end up killing it. It looks great but the expectations are already way too high.

Mother always said "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"
This is relevant to this trailer.

I think you're right in saying that it will suffer horribly from the hype. After all this time, the trailer was never going to be more than 'meh.'

I dunno where your getting the hype thing from, most places ive looked at are posting the reviews of what they have seen at SDCC and such, and have been fairly guarded in their reviews, stating some decent stuff, but things that they have worries about. But maybe im just reading the minority opinion instead of the majority. I still think it will be a fun one to watch, if nothing else, and for me, thats good enough. I dont always enjoy deep blah blah blah. Call me pathetic, but if its got a servicable story and pretty visuals/good effects and is in a genre I really enjoy, then ill probably like it one way or another. Of course the better movies I do enjoy more, but *shrug*.
I love the smurf comparisons already. Ahh blue people..you shall always be limited by your associations to the smurfs...sad indeed :P

I'm just scared that's it's going to end up a "episode I" special fx-laden piece of shit. From what i've heard, the preview audience reaction has been lukewarm.

That's precisely the problem, opinions are already expressing some disappointment. I'm talking about the hype before any footage was shown. People shouldn't judge it before watching the whole film though.

Wait. I don't recall Avatar being around circa 1994.

All right, we are going to use a fan brush here and uh why don't you take some hunter green and we are going to put a happy little bush right down over here in the corner there and that'll just be our little secret and if you tell anyone that that bush is there I will come to your house and I will cut you.

Sometimes something that is one-dimensional in appearance like the art box of a video game might just be an illusion foreshadowing the actual package that you're getting, so I won't be biased towards it from viewing the trailer. It may be an incomplete one as well.
