when i first started reading i wasn't to excited, by the time i got to the end of the list of new info i couldn't be more thrilled with everything that they're changing.  granted theres a few negatives here and there and some people might want to keep the old azeroth, but that just makes me thing why pay for a evolving and changing game world when nothing evolves and changes?  HELL YEA BLIZZARD keep up the good stuff!!!

It's a mixed bag. Updating the old world, both in playability and having things actually change is something I have to respect.

On the other hand though, what does it mean for me personally? It's a expansion for alts in a game where alts are useless because of gear gaps and rep grinds. I'd probably play a alt, but I know full well it wouldn't amount to anything long term and stop at 60.

at first i wanted to resubscribe, get up to 80, and start grinding for a set of heirlooms for a worgen warrior.

after a week or two to think about it, i'm a little cynical about blizz allowing race/faction changes (for a low low fee of $30) and then a couple weeks later announcing that previously prohibited race/class combos are now available.

it really feels like an idea that was first proposed by the corporate bean counters, then the story dept was instructed to make it work.

Holy crap, Blizzard really did go overboard on the commercialism.  They may as well have pizza ads in the game.

Riiiight, because allowing players more freedom in choices (albiet with a fee in the one case) is such a horrible thing...everyone is going all apeshit on cataclysm and how they have problems with it, but the stuff people keep whining about seems to be no different than other changes made to the game.  I wont say its perfect, but I still have fun playing it, and I just dont see the big deal, but *shrug*.

If there's concern about the changing world, well, Azeroth is constantly changing, just not as drastically as Cataclysm promises to be.

Besides, Blizzard could always reissue the old content like EverQuest did recently on stand-alone servers.  Relive the magic of old Azeroth. ;)

Oh, the thought of going from level 1 to level 85 while trying to keep a job and a girlfriend happy...

I'm farily certain this game causes premature brain atrophy.

i just hung my two tier eight 80's up and don't plan on playing this game for a long time (if ever).  i'm so burnt out with it and that's ok.  i've neglected console games for long enough.  it seems i'm the only one that disagrees with them totally deleting the old world.  why would i want that?  deleting memories is an illogical idea imo.

Well, it stinks for alliance territory because a lot of it was pretty interesting.  However, as dead boring as a lot of horde zones are, they could use some spicing up.  Maybe the Barrens won't be purgatory now? :p

I disagree, memories are well and good, but content will always take precendence, and its much more "logical" to do this cataclysm then add some new world, and it allows you to visit areas, retaining some of those memories your so fond of, but allowing a new group of people to enjoy it, and making it enjoyable for people who would like to create alts, but are bored as hell by the earlier designs.  I mean honestly the only people using those early areas are mostly people who have done them over and over and over and over, and its nice to allow them some new stuff.  And if your really pissed because you can no longer one shot old dungeons, or because your one of those guilds that only plays vanilla wow because the rest of it is not up to your (imo) rediculous standards of some type, well boo hoo.  Thats minority for you, deal with it, or dont play.  Same thing about these people bitching about faction changes and stuff. You DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.  Its purely optional, and sorry to say it, but VIDEOGAMES ARE A BUSINESS, and businesses are about making money.  Same thing with the new vanity pets.  You are under absolutely NO obligation to buy it, and if you really feel your missing out because you cant have ever single pet..then go play diablo or something to satisfy your item whoring.

/end rant

are they really deleting the old world or is it like something what they did in asherons call many years ago where shadows attacked and destroyed some towns?

The world as it stands now will be gone for good.  If they do change it back to a similar style years down the road (though I don't think WoW will last that long), they'd rebuild the whole thing to take advantage of flying mounts and whatnot.

Looks like Blizzard must be pretty hard up because they're giving away free game time of a week to select accounts.

How does that mean they are hard up? They are trying to lure people back because they are a business and they want money.

All right, we are going to use a fan brush here and uh why don't you take some hunter green and we are going to put a happy little bush right down over here in the corner there and that'll just be our little secret and if you tell anyone that that bush is there I will come to your house and I will cut you.
