Seriously, just one is all I need, because I can't see a reason NOT to. Most computer games these days are cross-platform anyway.

What do you call it?
"Not MMOs"?

Neal brought up indie games... which are mostly in the style of older JRPGs anyway as far as I can see. That seems to invalidate the point entirely.
Edit: Actually, you could possibly divide it up into single player and multiplayer RPGs. That's still not quite ideal, there's games like Vesperia that blur the lines, but in general a game's going to be either geared towards one or the other; ToV is definitely more of a single player RPG than something like PSU for example, a game that's had a few topics going into MMO despite not quite qualifying and possibly being more successful as an
offline
portable game.

Considering that with the indie/homebrew RPG scene growing, the CRPG board has been consistently active for a while. The board is far from dead. And from a personal standpoint, I'm a fan of organization and keeping the two separate keeps things from getting messy.

Because it's more work to merge them than it is to do nothing and leave them alone. :)

Actually, Neal's post reminded me: why not double or so the amount of topics seen on a single page, whether or not they're merged? I always liked setting the amount of topics available on a page to the max when the option was there, and it may mitigate the worries of a merger being messy. More active forums have gotten by with fewer boards, and Neogaf, notorious as it is, doesn't even bother to have more than a single video game board anyway.
Edit: It might also keep people from making new FFXIII topics every damn time they reveal a new character.

Well, I'm convinced.

If you merge Console RPGs and Computer RPGs into "RPG's", you should switch the Brush and Quill back into the more general Creative Cornucopia so that the indie devs focus their efforts there. Right now, Brush and Quill seems to be about just books. Oh god, books vs computers. Destroy all books and computers.
I don't see a way to reduce the total number of forums, if that's what you're after.

I don't see why it shouldn't be merged.
What about all the bioware RPGs that are crossplatform? Where should they be discussed?

Admittedly I find that one easy: Dragon Age Origins goes into PC gaming since it was originally announced for that and would've been out on that months ago before the delay anyway, whereas Mass Effect was designed primarily for the 360, and thus should be classified with console games.
That reminds me though, I didn't elaborate this much earlier but when I made the comment about the indie RPGs being modelled after JRPGs making the separation pointless, I mean that a large reason that computer RPGs merited their own forum originally was that they were distinctly different from those you would've or could've played on consoles, but that's no longer really the case. Using those as a reason to keep them separate seems to reduce it to more of a technicality; this is not what fans of
computer
RPGs are really caring about, they're games made by fans of console RPGs put on the platform they can release them on, similarly a few indie RPGs are cropping up on XBL anyway.
Anyways, Fei's suggestion might be more appropriate for the games given their nature.
