Dissidia Multiplayer Problems

Alright, so a friend and I are trying to play each other offline and you have to enter sleep mode to exchange friend cards. We left it in sleep mode for like 15 minutes and it isn't working. I've scoured the internet for information on this and found absolutely nothing other than people with the same problem and no answer. Anyone know what is wrong?
