That's better than not at all, by a lot... but doesn't really speak well of SE's interest in bringing the series over. Guess I'd have to hope all entries stay on Nintendo systems, or we'll be screwed if there's a jump back to Sony (or, somehow, to Microsoft).

Why would we be screwed if the series made a jump like that?

Because if Nintendo's publishing VI that implies they're the ones invested in seeing the series here, not SE, and that'd lower the chances of seeing the other games.

Oh DQVI, why must you be the black sheep of the family? Big high-five for Nintendo if they do bring it, even if they butcher the DQ logo again.

By the way, is DQX still being developed for the Wii?

I think the butchering is partially, if not fully, SE's fault. Certainly removing the sword is, it's not there in the cover for Swords on the Wii.

The American cover is the same as the Japanese one which is odd since it seems to be the only Japanese DQ without the classic logo. Maybe because there is a huge sword on the cover and the game is called Swords. Who knows, it's Square Enix.

US releases of Joker and Rocket Slime do keep the sword and both were published by SE, same thing with IV and V. I know I'm just nitpicking but the logo is iconic. A little consistency would be good.

It could have been an attempt to use whichever was "current", so another major release would probably reset it then. Not unless a sword is actually a problem for some weird reason.

Also, DQIII did go without a sword in the logo.

Spencer of Siliconera hinted that SE won't be bringing it over, and it's more likely Nintendo will.

Which isn't surprising at all, actually.

I don't care who brings it over, as long as someone does.

... Ok, I think when people are hoping for news of a game's announcement (namely one that's looking dubious) it's better to start a new thread for the vaguely related news stories.

I'd be suspect of the results, with IX winning, it's the most recently released and therefore most on players minds. I remember when it came out everyone complaining how it was dumbed down and a departure from the series etc.

My biggest complaint is that the post game turns into a Monster Hunter style game, but the japanese seem to be crazy about that sort of grinding/item hunting anyway.

Every I see a "top rpg or game from japan" list the newest game, esp the newest pokemon is on it.

Are they that fickle?

9 was filled with flaws. Job imbalances. Bad quests. Going back to level one on job swap. Status effect accuracy nerfed to uselessness from previous games. Despite all of them it was still really fun, but not worth that #1 slot from a american perspective. But in it's defense...Japan actually got to use the multiplayer because everyone had the game. The majority in the west never touched that feature.
