The voice acting is awful.

Uhh, for a game that takes place in New York City, I would think a narrator with a Bronx or Brooklyn accent would be more convincing than a Texas cowgirl.

On the other hand it might better show how America's being represented for the game.

Anyways, I heard enough of that to shut it off. She might actually be doing an amazing job for the role, but for now I don't have the tolerance threshold to listen to it.

At the end it says dual discs for English and Japanese voices thankfully.

It sounded like the announcer was saying "Soccer Wars".  Oh well, it looks interesting enough that I'd buy it.

It's the same VA that did Ulrika in Mana Khemia 2.

In case there was any question, the character being voiced there looks like THIS:

http://www.rpgfan.com/soundtracks/st5-0/cover_l.jpg

So uh...the voice makes sense. It may be irritating, but I can handle it.

And of course, Japanese language makes it all better.

They would've been far better off just throwing some English text over that trailer and not voicing it.

But I'm still pumped to play this game! :)

They can't fit both language tracks on a single disc actually... so they're including a second game disc with the voice track changed.

I really do want to give the English VA a chance. This is an entry set in AMERICA, Japanese VA isn't exactly appropriate and is ideally a last resort.

I may have a high tolerance for voice acting, but I liked it. Sure, the voice actor was over the top and campy, but so was everything in the trailer.

Gemini sounds appropriate for what she seems to be: a lively cowgirl type complete with the typical twang.  I love that, though I'm probably one of the few people in the world who actually likes it when they characterize someone like that.

I'll wait until I hear the rest of the girls before giving a pass/fail grade on the dub.

Great news!  This will be a must buy for me (no matter how bad it is) out of principle.  Who knows, if enough people actually pick it up, maybe we can see NA versions of the earlier titles?  I'm stoked that the original dialogue is an option.  NIS knows its core audience well enough, obviously.

I personally find the dub voice just fine. I don't hear it going flat or screeching anywhere, so that's fine. Plus it's fitting for her, like Spoony said. I'm all for the dub.

Also: Anyone who thinks Sakura Taisen isn't about camp and cheese had better get a reality check. :P

Didn't find much wrong with the dub either. Not like you can dub a cowgirl samurai any other way, especially considering the absurd Japanese scenarios.

I think it's that most people have a naturally poor reaction to Texan accents in general.

But until Pat showed me the picture, I didn't know the trailer's narrator was supposed to be a cowgirl or that there was a cowgirl character.  Had I known that beforehand, I wouldn't have said what I did.  All I got from the trailer was that it took place in New York City and hearing a Texas accent for a New York City promo was incongruous to me.

EDIT: And if Sakura Wars' cowgirl is even half as cool as Sandy in Spongebob Squarepants, it's all good.

And lol at "soccer wars."  Isn't that Inazuma Eleven?
